Hello,

I recently asked the Airtel technician who visited my home in Chennai for upgrading my connection from ADSL to V-Fiber. I had a Huawei HG630a modem which was from my previous closed connection and asked him to setup V-Fiber on that same modem. However he denied saying that the Huawei HG630a was a ADSL modem and hence cannot be configured for using with V-Fiber. He then replaced my existing D-Link ADSL modem with a Binatone router modem for setting up the V-Fiber connection.

Can Huawei HG630a not be used for setting up Airtel V-Fiber 40Mbps connection?

You can use it deff. just do the config. correctly. Airtel Engg. are stupid as f.

My Airtel V-Fiber has been configured with Binatone DT920W modem router. During the installation process the airtel engineer configured the serial number of the router somewhere in his phone to activate my VDSL connection. Can I simply change my router to this Huawei HG630a router by following the steps mentioned in this video and using my PPPoE username and password?

Thank you 4uziaul. Another strange thing which happened today was that I was unable to login to the modem router page of my Binatone DT920W. I was breaking my head and finally called the airtel technician who came for the install and asked him whether had he changed the default password. His response was that "Airtel has introduced this new security measure of changing the default modem password to prevent unauthorized access of modem by third party people with access to the wifi network". He also mentioned that this password is automatically changed to be the account number (which can be found on the bill).

That’s absolutely fine and many new connections have the account number as the password for the modem.
