All,

I would like to share my experience with the Airtel V-Fiber speed dropping issue and the solution that has worked out for me.

A year back the Airtel has upgraded my broadband connection to V-fiber and started offering 40 mbps speed. They have provided me Huawei HG630A Router/Modem and I was happy with its performance. I was getting the promised 40 Mbps speed. Almost after using this router for 1 year, one fine day my router was dead.

I raised the request with airtel and they replaced the router with Binatone DT910W. From that day my chase with airtel has started. With the Binatone router, I used to get 40 Mbps speed for few hours and then speed gets dropped 3-4 Mbps. The only way to resolve this issue is to restart the router. Again for few hours the speed stays at 40 mbps and then it’s dropped to 3-4 Mbps. I have raised several complaints with airtel team.

To me this was surprising because with Huawei router I never had this issue. Whenever I call Airtel call center, they always start with cleaning the temporary files in your computer (It does appear to me as standard solution from them. Strangely they will start without even asking me whether I am using computer for browsing L ). Then they tried with changing the DNS server. However, the problem persists.

Airtel engineer has visited my home and he replaced the Binatone DT910W with Binatone DT920W. This new router is small in size. However still the problem persists. Upon my escalation, Airtel tried some backend options (I am not sure what they tried) also but no use.

By this time I am convinced that somehow Huawei working fine, but then Binatone is giving up in my case, though I don’t know why. So I requested Airtel to provide me Huawei modem but the answer is that they are not using Huawei now and they also don’t have any stock. I am even searched for online shopping sites like QuickR to see if I can buy the Huawei , as from past 1 month Airtel was not able resolve my issue. I also searched Amazon to see if we have any other VDSL2 modem/router. I found one, TP-Link TD-W9977 300Mbps Wireless VDSL/ADSL Modem Router, but I am not sure if this works for Airtel V Fiber VDSL2.

While exploring the options myself, I have opened the Router page and looked at DSL configuration page. The CRC errors caught my attention. I can see thousands of errors. I immediately called the airtel service engineer and he told me that we will see this errors because of the wiring and he advised me to change the wiring. I am surprised that why these settings were not looked during my one month with Airtel.

Finally, I changed the wiring and my issue is resolved. I getting the speed and no more speed drop.. Personally I am convinced that Huawei was handling the CRC errors well and binatone is reducing the speed in such cases. Also I haven’t looked at the Attenuation and SNR Margin details with my old wiring. However, I understood the important of these settings through https://www.giantstride.gr/snr-margin-adsl/

Okay. Let me help you with few things.

1. According to one of my friend, TP-Link and Asus both works good for the VDSL (mentioned VDSL only). But if your backend is a problem, no router on earth can solve this problem. Just like in your case.

2. Keep your wiring solid. The first thing one should check is the wiring because other company like Hathway keeps the check of wiring (whenever I complain them about the problem, they check wiring first). But with Airtel, they come at your home check stuff and go. So first thing you should ask them is to check wiring without any joints and shorting.

3. VDSL is a epic fail and it won't take Airtel anywhere once companies like Excitel and Hathway take over the clients in such areas and Jio comes in action.

Airtel's wiring are very poor and their underground wirings are rot now. VDSL is like a "Jugaad" to keep using older infra.

Trust me, people are moving from Airtel to other companies the same way when once people moved from MTNL to Airtel.

Airtel need to lay out actual fiber now. They can afford it but they simply doesn't want since they are copy-cat now.

They are actually waiting for the JioFiber to come in action so that they can copy them as well the same way they copied their plans, their tech (VoLTE) and other stuff. 🙂

Problem is their vdsl equipment/slam is brought from Huawei which is cheap chineese crap.
Their old adsl tech brought from alacatel/lucent was using same old lines but still was almost flawless.

I know vdsl is more prone to external factors, still the dns timeout error I get everyday for 4-5mins twice or thrice a day doesn't has to do anything with vdsl tech, it's all about how bad things are at backend.
Already using Act which is till now perfect. Using Airtel just for landline now as mobile network are not usable in house.
Though it seem like Jio has put up a new tower nearby so once I port all family members nos to jio, would get rid of Airtel BB also.

Are you able to get the Jio signals inside the house?

Since, I have the same problem. I don't get Voda, Idea, Airtel or Jio inside my home.

yep only band 5 is working though better than any other operator ever worked.
I noticed it last month only, maybe they installed or optimised tower.
Jio is working even in rooms without windows though only in phone with band 5.
Two nos already ported. third one to go after unlimited pack expires on it.
last is on iPhone 5s with VoLTE missing is still on Airtel and don't want to use/hassle with jio4gvoice app.
Jio speed is same outdoor(band 40, 2-5mbps) or indoor (band 5, 2-5mbps).
Still better than Airtel with 20mbps outdoor and fails the test indoor.

Airtel use to work only in rooms with windows however from last 2-3 months even incoming calls /otp sms became hit and miss.

How do you change the bands and which phones can have this functionality of changing?

How do I know if I can change band or not?

Last month they snatched CDMA 800Mhz B5 from MTS via RCOM....

^^ Nope bw still shows 5mhz in my phone. so maybe not the case. also they got just 3.75 from mts and need 5mhz to add up.

I didn't changed any bands, coverage is so weak that indoor I get 850 band only while outdoor band 40.
samsung/iPhone got ways to check bands.

Still for changing band any android device with meditek processor or any other rooted device with Network Signal Guru app.
Reliance Jio speeds with carrier aggregation on three bands
