I'm about to get Airtel ftth and they have free calls through landline. I'm planning to get cordless phone so I can allow others to use the phone without disturbing me while working in the room 😉

Any suggestions of a good cordless phone is much appreciated

check if DECT6.0 phones are available in the market at reasonable price.

Are DECT6.0 phones specifically for US? Looks like there aren't decent ones at reasonable price. The ones I find are from Motorola/Panasonic which use 2.4GHz. Will it interfere with normal wifi?

have no personal experience with non-dect6 phone. when i decided to get cordless to make use of unlimited calls on airtel landline, i just imported the one random Panasonic model that was listed on ibhejo.com. i did not even research it. i just read that dect6 do not interfere with wifi so i just looked for the first model that was available and ordered it. turned out to be an expensive purchase as i had to pay 500 bucks extra for another device (from ebay.in) to get the caller id working. us uses a different tech for caller id than india so you need another converter for it.

the dect6 unit i have works fine though my house has four routers total. two on the same floor. one placed right besides the base unit. voice quality is fine though not as clear as i would have liked but then the airtel cables are really old in my area and airtel people have tried to improve it and this is the best they could offer. as for the wifi... the D-Link router placed besides the base unit has pretty amazing range for a free router provided by airtel. i can catch its signal in basement sometimes.

i think @Vedant once experimented with a non-dect cordless and he ended up returning it because it really freaked his wireless network.

Thanks for the information. I'll try to get DECT phone to not interfere with wifi. Thanks for the model @raj2007, looks good, I'll try to research on DECT models before zeroing in. Any more suggestions are utmost welcome!

Sadly there are very few decent priced DECT cordless phones available in India. Here is my experience with DECT models.

Moto is damn expensive. If you are okay with spending that much go for it.

Most Panasonic models are the imported ones made for middle east, they will work perfectly but there are minor settings issues you need to play around + no idea about after sales on these ones as they are not officially released.

While buying Panasonic make sure you check and double check the talk time on those, the ones which work even during power outage mostly have terrible 2-3hrs talktime. (In comparison most cordless give 4-5hrs talktime easily, less charge = prolonged battery life)

Gigaset aka Siemens are good and work fine but after about 12-14months you will face battery draining issues for which the only solution is a battery replacement. Not a big problem but still a consistent thing that happens with their cordless phones.

@bb127 , Even i was on search for cordless phone just recently since i had too got Airtel FTTH. Challenge is with DECT phones, it is not officially available in India. Sellers over Ecommerce are importing it from Dubai and products lying with them from last 2-3 yrs and kept shabbily ...
They also do not provide warranty and some customers are complaining of DOA set or instrument failing in 2 - 3months .... Finally i went with officially available Panasonic India Cordless phone but it works on 2.4Ghz . I have two routers and no performance issues experienced...
