Recently, there were two incidents which leave a big question mark about security loopholes in Jio services.

Incident-1

In first week of October, I requested customer care to terminate one of my Jio numbers which I do not intend to use in future. I got this number in July 2016. I got SMS that it will be discontinued after expiry of current plan. The number is still active. But that’s not the point.

On 26th October, I got an email that “As per your request, the Alternate Contact Number for your Jio number has been changed to +919971068454.” I never requested for this change. A quick search revealed that this number belongs to Deepak Kumar who is Senior Executive at Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited according to his Facebook profile.

I changed the alternate contact number to my number back through My Jio app and OTP received on my Jio number.

Incident-2

I recently ported my primary Vodafone number to Jio (requested on 18th, completed on 24th) because I was quite happy with Jio Voice and Data (I still am). While checking the usage in my Jio app, I saw two SMSs were sent from my number (sent to private numbers) in the morning of 26th October which I obviously I did not send. If they were any service SMSs, I could understand that any app might have sent it. But I was not even awake at the time of those SMSs. I can share screenshot if anyone is curious.

I feel quite uncomfortable with these incidents in the era or credit card/debit card/OTP scams.

What do you guys feel about it.

Once or twice, I got connected to totally different number than the number I dialed. I wonder how that happened.

Jio network is still a crowd sourced beta. So many times I have got connected to random persons. They need to double down and fix these teething issues before people port out in mass numbers.

But still ported my primary number to Jio because Airtel network is hell in Mumbai.
