U have so strongly recommended the use of bridged mode, but wot i want to ask is whether its safe ??? Coz cyberwiz said somewhere in his post that there r chance of  my router going kaboom!! 😀  if instructions are not followed properly or the firmware being old etc.

mystery_inc18, to quote what cyberwiz said in his original post :

I haven't tried it on my 502T coz i have already got it replaced once and dont wanna risk screwing it again especially when its firmware hasnt been upgraded. I am using another router/modem which i brought from Hong Kong and which is already configured to work in the bridged mode.
I think what he meant was that he had a problem with his 502T before he could switch to bridged mode. He also mentions that his 502T router did not have the latest firmware at that time, and so he did not want to try experimenting with bridged mode on that router..

I think the reason he put up the disclaimer about doing it at your own risk was that

a. He had faced some problems with his MTNL router with the older firmware.
b. This was probably the first time anyone had talked about bridged mode in this forum, and it was almost experimental at that point. So he just wanted to make sure that no one blames him, if anything goes wrong with their routers while trying this.

As long as you have the latest version of the firmware, that is V2.00B01T01.ML.20050530, you should be fine. You can check the version of the firmware from the router configuration page (http://192.168.1.1), by selecting Status tab and then clicking on Device Info.

Advance Task scheduler Is the software that satisfy my Nu problems

The built in Windows Task Scheduler can be easily configured to connect and disconnect your MTNL connection at the scheduled NU time in bridged mode:

To disconnect :

Code:
rasdial MTNL_Triband /DISCONNECT
To connect :

Code:
rasdial MTNL_Triband UserID Password
By default, UserID is your phone number, and Password is your CA number. If you have changed the default password (which you should), specify the changed one here.

MTNL_Triband is the name of the network connection that you create to connect to the internet via MTNL (You can use any name you like).
See this post for more details :
https://broadband.forum/index.php?showtop...indpost&p=41365

Add these commands to a scheduled task, and you're done.

Advanced Task Scheduler ($39.95 or pirated) is probably not worth it 😛

You're welcome 🙂

Dude, I was just kidding about Advanced Task Scheduler being worthless.

The point I was trying to make, is that alternative ways are possible to do the same thing without installing extra 3rd party software. People who want to try Advanced Task Scheduler, are going to go ahead and try it anyway, and of course they will decide what's best for them.

I was just trying to make people aware about the in-built options that the OS provides for doing the same thing, for users that don't want to install new software.

You are spot on mate.

The firmware earlier to the one mentioned in the post used to hang the modem and it had to be taken to D-Link factory for upgradation which is why i put up the disclaimer.

I have clearly mentioned that the V2.00B01T01.ML.20050530 firmware is bug free and will not cause any problem. I have even mentioned how to decode the firmware date so that if people have a different one, they can make out if its prior to the bug free or a version released after it.

Mystery_inc18 is again a case of inattentive reading of the post.

best is getting a timed switch.

want one pm me for around 1500 Rs.
[/b]

IMHO, why spend Rs. 1500 for hardware, when you can accomplish the same thing using software that comes pre-installed with Windows (rasdial.exe and Windows Scheduler) ?

See my post above in this thread for more details, or just click here

Let me know if you have any questions.
