If we ban Chinese food, we will hitting our own people. The people making Chinese food are Indians. There are barely any jobs, even they will be thrown to the streets.
But then, you can't predict about our 56".

Do you think banning Tiktok and PUBG didn't affect the livelihoods of Indians? Bytedance was supposed to hire 10,000 people from India in 2020. Some people had offer letters from them which became useless the moment the government announced a ban on Tiktok.

Yup, someone I know was working at Byte dance after MBA from IIM Rohtak (2020 batch). Now, nothing... And not the person's fault.

The govt needed to be seen as taking some action against the Chinese aggression. And, in my opinion, banning the apps seemed to be the only probable option so as to cause some damage while also leaving the door open for negotiation.
Having a military confrontation would have permanently damaged our relations with the Chinese, something no government wants to do.
If situation returns to pre-April status then the Govt can unban those apps and these people can be employed back, as its a temporary measure.
In this globalised world with countries interdependent on each other, there will always be some ramifications if anyone takes unilateral action.
