Airtel reportedly launched India’s first 5G capable technology ‘Massive MIMO’ (Massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) on Thursday. Initially, Airtel is implementing the new technology in Bengaluru and Kolkata and will expand to other parts of the country soon. The Implementation has been done under Airtel’s Project Leap network transformation program, wherein the network capability has been expanded by three to seven times, using the same spectrum.
@kirti07 He is testing it in Gwalior M.P not in UP.
And what is liberalize spectrum mean?
Airtel in Haryana has both liberalize and non liberalize spectrum in 1800mhz band. How will it affect 4g deployment?
Non Lib : 6.2mhz
L iberalise : 5mhz+3.4mhz+1.6mhz
@raman07 liberalise spectrum means which have been bought through spectrum auction held after 2008 or so. That spectrum bought in any band could be used for 4G 3G or 2G or other any technology in coming days.
.
Airtel don't have spectrum in 900 band that affect their 2G indoor coverage in villages in Haryana I've been to cause they rely on 6.2 MHz chunk of 1800 MHz Band, which was administerly allotted to them to offer 2G services 15 years ago...
That can't be used to offer any other technology other than 2G
.
While the spectrum they bought through participating in auctions since 2008 can be used to offer any thing.
in Haryana they have
(Band 1) - 5 MHz (currently using for 3G but airtel will scrap 3G after 2020 & will deploy 4G in that Band too.)
Band 3 - 10 MHz
Band 40 - 20 MHz
.
airtel got Sub-Ghz 850 MHz spectrum in Haryana from TATA which they might use to enhance 4G coverage but only after they Liberalise it (Hope airtel keeps 850 MHz to themselves cause there are changes they'll trade that with Jio, because TRAI will scrap the current intra band capping of 50% within any Band.) 🙂
Making people fool in name of 5G and MIMO.
Long road before 5G see reality.
Tell me one handset which claims to be 5G ready. All PR shit and people buying it.
And i was hoping that airtel would offer 4g with 20mhz of bandwidth on band 3 after acquiring rest of 3.8mhz chunk from reliance or mts 🙁
So max they can use is 10mhz of band 3 to provide 4g in Haryana, right?
What i have seen those far by speedtest over youtube every ISP uses 2x2 MIMO. Only airtel seems to use 4x2 MIMO. So its basically will increase speed of current 4g tower by adding multiple antennae. That's it. It's nowhere near to 5G.
Can someone explain this below paragraph with an example? I did not understand it.
"Abiding by the spectrum holding cap rules laid down by DOT, an operator can own the right to use spectrum only in a quantum less than or equal to 50% of the available spectrum in a particular band in a given licence area (circle) and less than or equal to 25% of the total available spectrum across all bands put together in a given licence area."
