how are cameras on these phones? my experience with mi devices is restricted to their budget devices so no idea how good the cameras are on flagships.

cameras are fine tbh. not quite the iphone8/note8 level but close enough. you can download google camera apk to get that pixel goodies like EIS

But if you want the best camera in this price range, LG Q6 or V20 are the one to beat.
