Hi folks,I looked around the forum and couldn't really find any related thread, so I'm posting this here...Sometimes, the d/l speed on the Sify servers skyrockets. I have absolutely no idea why this happens but it (very rarely) happens late evening and continues to early morning.Like right now, at the moment of posting this, uTorrent is giving me 115.5 kBit download. It peaked at about 200kBit. It's been averaging above 85kBit since the past 4 hours or so.I used speedtest.net and they gave me 😀ownload : 3062 kbpsUpload : 2050 kbpsCan anyone please explain exactly how this happens? How do all their speed restrictions get nullified? Thanks.Edit :- speedtest.net peaked at 8500kbps/2731kbps. uTorrent at about 350kBps or so.

Yeh it happens many times . I once touched 600 KB/s on utorrent with sify for atleast 6 hours thats whooping 4.8 mbps , unfortunately i dont have any screenshots and it happened 6-7 months back 😛 . In 3 years i had it max 4-5 times but only once i got that high speed , rest of times it was hardly 80-90 KB/s

this is mostly when torrent client finds an IP which is on same LAN and seeding same torrent.so i dont think its some kind of flawjust noticed u got those speeds from speedtest too. so no idea.

The last time this happened, I also thought that uTorrent found what I think it calls a "Local Peer" (I'm guessing that's what a local peer is). But I checked the 'Peer List' in my torrent and the torrent giving me the maximum speed (above 120kBps) was a French corporate IP (i used whois) : "wmail.rmi.fr". The rest were about 2-3kBps.And slightly off topic here, but in the Peer List, what does the 'req' column mean? Normal req's were like 3|0, 4|1, 2|2 etc etc but this guy had 35|0. That's the only obvious difference I could spot.

ya that does happen & u should be lucky enough to experience it & also be ready for it because once it happened few months back, i had just put some torrent on download that would get over by the morning, only to realise that it was done by 4 & it was seeding it for the remaining 4 hours!!!:wall:

@amish: No it happens , and it was not like my torrent client found a local peer . Heck i even had ubuntu on my pc already and was just testing speeds . Dloading parallely both by HTTP and torrent client . speeds cease to decrease when this happens 😀 . ANd one fine moment u got auto logged out and no speeds after relogin 🙁 . I was never able to figure out why and how this used to happen , i am pretty sure theres nothing that could be done on user side and most probably error on server side .

It happened with me too, few weeks back.thou, i have someone working for sifyBB, i asked her if sify is cooking up something new for us, she told me that right now sify is concentrating on its corporate users, so we guys r left in cold by phucking sifyBB. i have dumped Sify for MTNL, n its sad bcuz it had been a long relationship, almost 3 years, but WE have to tell Sify tht they cant take their loyal users for granted.

thats really too bad...i dunno how long will i cling on to sifyother providers have moved from 256 kbps to 2 mbps & now some have moved on to 8 mbpssify will have to keep up or else its gonna lose many customers!!

It already lost me:thumbsup:. My new Airtel UL Rs.1499/- 512 kbps connection was installed on 4th January,2008.See the speeds I'm getting:yahoo:

gratz... What's the dl limit on this 1499/512 plan?
1499UL 512kbps= Unlimited download  at 512 kbps speeds

This happens in p2p programs like Limewire too. There it shows if the file is on the same LAN (local peer) with blue stars. I have downloaded such files at over 600 kbps..
