Hi all, I am planning to buy a router for ACT broadband and am not sure which one would be good for me.
Below is my crrent setup/situation/requirement:-
I have 1200sqft house. I need the signal , on groundfloor, first floor and terrace. I need to connect around 7 devices currently but in a couple of years, I may connect 10 to 12 devices maximum. I use internet mainly for connecting to my work VPN, sometimes to watch movies and sometimes to download torrent.
I was thinking of going for wireless ac. I had shortlisted D-Link DIR -816 but found some negative reviews. Then I though of going of TP-Link C7 AC1750, but this too has few negative reviews. No matter what router I choose, I find some bad review. I amunable to afford nighthawk routers ,etc. Max budget is 5k. Please advise.

I dont think it is possible to just use 5Ghz wifi for different floors as in your case, you will have to rely on 2.4Ghz signal to use it in other floors and there is no famous product with at least some bad reviews and as for the recommendation, I have not used any expensive routers in the range of 5k or so, I am currently using miwifi 3 which is very good for the price of rs 2000 but it might not be enough for your use.

dont need to spend much these days to get ac wifi. they've become very cheap. you can get good one under 2k

search for dlink DIR 816 or tp-link c20i on Amazon.

however ac wifi is useful only if its in direct sight or only if 1 cement wall is present between router and device. my xiaomi 3 router plus my neightbors TP-Link router switch automatically to 2.4ghz band if there are two or more walls between device and router

ac wifi is useful for scenarios say when router and smart tv/chromecast are present in same room. you'll get much stable streaming like this

As we are moving to high speed internet..... getting a router with Gigabit port should be one of the preference... as down the line in a year or so you might move to 100Mbps + connection.... as we have seen in last year....... people have moved from 512Kbps to 50Mbps.......

So C7 AC1750 falls in line and is a good product.... though I have not used the product....

Also between Dlink & TPLink....... I would suggest to go for TP-Link.....

Thanks for the response. I am thinking of shortlisting the C20i. Hope it satisfies the need although reviews say that there are packet drops often and gets disconnected often.

Extremely late reply and i think you most probably bought a router but it can be helpful for any future buyers, i recently saw a new variant of mi router, mi router 3g for around $40(2600 inr) on AliExpress, it has gigabit ports, USB 3.0, 256 MB DDR3 ram, better dual core 880 Mhz processor and better antenna compared to mi router 3 which makes it a pretty nice deal. I will be buying this router next month.

I think a lot depends on how much you want to spend and how serious you are about streaming etc. You can get routers starting from 1-2k and go upto 15k+. In your situation, I think you will need to get one repeater at least (rule of thumb, your repeater should be the exact same make and model as your primary router if you want it to work without hassles). I would suggest looking at the 10K+ range (i.e. total expenditure of 20k+) if you want a good setup. But really depends on whether you are looking to spend that much.
