I've made a new command line client for Sify as supersify stopped working for me.

New client works well with the new sify login protocol. You can download the program and source code (C#) from here

Zdravstvuyte Mr. Pradeep Chandiramani,

The fact that you're passing of most the code I wrote earlier in python as your own isn't too distressing (aw come on, even the comments? Surely you could obfuscate them to another level...? Perhaps write it backwards?).

What is so distressing is this prevalence of plagiarism and lack of imagination plaguing the country. It is heartbreaking to see that a community which prides itself as coders really has no clue what it means to code.

Why do you like to code Monsieur Chandiramani? Is it the problem-solving aspect of it? The mathematical elegance? The sheer utility of the end-product, and how it will help people? Well, ripping code off disqualifies you on all counts, except perhaps the final one. But then, you'd practice the maxim of the scientific community - "Give credit where its due". If you were to time travel back to the beginning of the 20th century, you wouldn't see Einstein going “And, I'll just rename this from 'Planck' to 'Einstein's' constant. Ah, and a little change of order here, and we get the 'Einstein Uncertainty Principle.' Maybe if I write it in German, I can claim Dirac's work as my own. Wunderbar!” (Pardon the anachronism).

Since I released Sistine in Public Domain, you are free do to whatever you want. But please, let us put a stop to plagiarism, and give innovation and imagination a chance, eh mate?

Auf Wiedersehen,

- Liet-Kynes

🙂 yes i took most of code from Sistine. i just ported it to c# cause i dont like python...

i dont see why u should bitch and moan when you released the code in public domain. I think u forgot the meaning of public domain. U GRANT ALL RIGHTS AND I CAN DO ANYTHING I WANT WITH THE CODE

btw that was not my intention. i just forgot to link to ur page, did it now... her's the link again pradeep.chandiramani - Sify Broadband command line client

cheers

dont fight people. it's open source. a simple request would have worked fine!

Ah, but you miss the point! Like I mention in my previous post, you are free to do whatever you want. This is not an argument about licenses, or the intricacies of “free as in freedom vs free as in beer”. No, the point I attempted to make was on the pitiful state of the hobbyist coding community. Sure, you can claim to dislike the original implementation, and justify your creation, but that does not address the issue at hand. Observe the last two posts - “It's open source”, and “I can do anything I want with the code”. Of course you can. However, all we end up is with derivatives of derivatives (feel free to expand the series). And a stagnation of the ol' “hobbyist spirit”. As you say yourself, Why would I “bitch and moan” about it, since I released it to public domain? If I truly cared about credit, I wouldn't go around using aliases now would I?Again, my intentions weren't to flame anyone, or to demand any credit or link-back. Perhaps my previous post and this one deserve to be in a separate topic of their own...

Thanks a lot Infernal. It works perfectly for me. If you can introduce override key then it would be great. How do i use it with my Ubuntu. It tells me to Download Java 6. Where do i get that for Ubuntu?
