has anyone applied for a new mobile connection in recent days? are they issuing new connections without sims? or ekyc with aadhaar is mandatory now?

visited airtel and vodafone store.

prepaid connection ownership cannot be transferred as per airtel. only option is to switch to postpaid first and then transfer ownership in case i want to play safe and connect mom's or dad's aadhaar to their numbers.
postpaid connection ownership can be transferred without aadhaar. both airtel and vodafone confirmed this. but for how long? that's a good question!

Idea on the other hand said no such option to switch ownership of postpaid (for 2nd connection for dad)..ended up closing connection. This would be close to a year ago I think.

Best is to port ur no via whoever's aadhar card you have.

And to stop getting postpaid push port via retailer(most got jio finger print scanner which can be used for other operators also) than a franchise store.

When I called Idea Broadband, while call was on hold, recording was played mentioning that its mandatory for all prepaid numbers linked with Aadhar.

While I changed from Postpaid to Prepaid for Idea, after my Postpaid was deactivated, my Prepaid was still not getting activated for 2 days. When I visited store, guy at store done eKYC by Aadhar reader device like Jio and number immediately got activated. I asked why it was not activated for last 2 days, he said my application was not sent to their headoffice, else once form reached office it would have got activated. I had only provided Photo and Aadhar copy. Even he returned back photo and Aadhar copy as he said it was no more needed.

Yup. Got my Jio sim without Aadhaar last month.

I've never seen a more friendlier, smoother sign up process in India than this. Went to the Reliance Digital kiosk, told them I did not have an Aadhaar card, gave drivers license and a photograph. The guy filled the form by himself, paid by card and the number got generated - all within a few minutes. Was told it could take a day or two to get for the sim to get activated since it wasn't E-KYC but received an sms stating the number has been activated literally within a few seconds after stepping out the door.

The one thing I particularly didn't care for was the requirement of having an alternate mobile number and for their insistence in generating some bar code using an app from that number. If I wanted to link numbers, I would have used Aadhaar.

Q3. What documents are required to complete the process?
All you need is your Aadhaar card/number and your Mobile. You will be required to complete biometric verification. You will also receive the verification code (OTP) on your Mobile that would be required to complete the process.
Q.11 What will happen to my previous details with Airtel?
All previous details will be overwritten with Aadhaar details.

Are they even verifying existing ownership details? Seems like they are just linking Aadhar using OTP as authentication. Could be a work around for cases like this.
