Hey, whats going on here!!!

I think in last few days we have lost focus from the main agenda of the forum. As the old adage goes "an idle mind is devil workshop", having no worthwhile topic in our hand has led to us leaving BSNL and picking us some one among us and making him as the target of our ire.[/b]

exactly!!! 😀

Good news for Airtel users No rental for Airtel's broadbandJuly 25, 2005 19:58 ISTAirtel Broadband and Telephone Services on Monday announced new tariff packages including zero monthly rental and free night usage plans for its customers in Delhi, Haryana and UP. The new tariff packages, which would be available to customers having an Airtel telephone connection, include the 'Delight 256' and the 'Night Surfing Top-Up' plans. The Delight 256 tariff package targeted at the casual Internet user will allow existing and new telephone subscribers to access its broadband service at zero monthly rentals, Airtel said. Customers can now pay only for what they use by paying a nominal Internet access charge of Rs 30 per hour, which effectively works out to be cheaper than a dial-up Internet connection. The Night Surfing Top-up Plan is an add-on plan, which offers free night surfing to broadband customers at a nominal monthly tariff of Rs 49 only. Existing customers of the Executive combo, Economy combo, Speed Plus and Turbo starter plans can now avail of free night surfing (between 9 PM to 8 AM) by topping-up their existing tariff packages plans with the newly introduced plan. The plan is targeted at users who mostly access the Internet at night.

Now the dialup cost using bsnl as ISP is 15.60 during peak hours & 10.80 at off-peak hours.

Basically what airtel has done is it multiplied the rates of BSNL by 4 times because the speed of dial up is 56 kbps so this comes around to Rs 40 in the offpeak hrs. which is still costlier than Rs30 / hr but thats and uncovincing explanation .Suppose there are two persons , one has a dial up and other has airtel BB costing 30/hr. If both are doing normal browsing like viewing web pages and mails then the person who has airtel bb will be in a loss comapared to bsnl dial up. The only difference comes when a user is doing some heavy downloading.

Is it economical of viable to heavy download at Rs. 30/H?

yes it is if u need it for a couple of hours in a month. not everyone like to stay online 24x7. it is definitely better than dialup in my opinion.

Lets wait for more rational rates from all ISPs in the near future.

Yes, nothing we can do except waiting. In the meantime my lifespan may end.

This is India. You will be 70 and it will still remain a developing country. I have drastically cut down my internet usage these days and am concentrating on getting my ass back out of India. Its been 7 years since I started using the net and my situation now is somewhat similar as it was 7 years back. I am able to d/l about 60MB per day now and that comparing the inflation of the net, that is what I used to d/l 7 years back. The only difference is that then it was dialup on vsnl and now it is dsl on bsnl. If you're interested in a free brochure about time travel, go to your nearest bsnl office. I am keeping a tab on my downloads. If it gets too painful to stay under the 2GB limit(18 days now and 900MB), I'll switch to airtel again. Installation charges might be high for 128k ul but that will be nothing compared to worrying about going over your limit with bsnl. If I do switch to airtel, I will raise hell with my bsnl commercial officer about bsnl's stupid download limits when I close the connection.
