In life, there are love affairs that we never forget, no matter how hard we try. Writer Max Zorn arrives in New York to promote his latest novel. His young wife Clara had gone ahead of him and has been in the city for some months working on the publication of his novel in the United States.
In his novel, Max recounts the failure of a passionate relationship in New York, seventeen years earlier. Almost by chance, he sees Rebecca, the woman in question, again.
They decide, once again, to pass a weekend together at Montauk, a small fishing village in Long Island, where they enjoyed an idyll all those years ago. They return from it full of hope and regrets.
