It seems to support google cast, runs on Android TV and has Ethernet port/Wifi support for streaming Netflix. If you already have a broadband connection from Airtel you get additional data upto 25 GB when bundling it.

Priced at ₹4999 and ₹7999.

Is there any discount on multiple televisions in a single house(Not a flat but a HUDA Plot) on the same connection?

I don't think so but there will be a discount on channel packs.

4. After free preview period, All SD channels will be available at Rs. 500 per month.

seriously. how much does airtel charge for hd channels? 😀

why to buy a box locked to subscription?
I am sure access to apps will stop if airtel tv subscription expires.

I'm not sure if the 4999 is the actual cost of this box or one of their non refundable deposit shenanigans. I paid 2K for my Airtel HD STB and finally when I cancelled and switched to Tata Sky, Airtel guys took the STB and remote back with them claiming the amount I paid was just a deposit. And the 25 GB is actually upto so it could be only 5GB my home reward. They only have broadband plans with decent amount of GB's where competition exists. Like igloo pointed out this is definitely a bad investment.

this stb is on sale through Amazon at advertised pricing. which indicates that you retain ownership of the box if you discontinue airtel services. however, only reviews would tell if airtel subscription is needed to use the android part of the device.

Airtel is asking user queries here:
Amazon.in: Customer Questions & Answers

Dear Sudhanshu,
To enjoy all services and features of Airtel Internet TV, you need to have an active DTH subscription.

Good to know. Someone in the Amazon product page comments had mentioned that Internet and apps are not going to work without a DTH subscription.

this is the standard answer to all queries regarding using the box without airtel dth subscription.

Update: I just had a word with Airtel DTH CC. They confirmed that the box will be leased and you don't actually own it. The 4999 and 7999 is actually for DTH subscription, installation charges and non refundable deposit. It also wont work as standalone Android TV without a DTH Subscription. I'd rather stick with Tata Sky and smart tv apps for now.
