On Election Day, ProPublica and the
Google News Lab spearheaded Electionland, a national reporting initiative to track the voting experience across America in real-time.
Involving more than 1100 journalists, the initiative was the largest collaborative reporting initiative covering a single news event in history and helped identity over 1200 voting issues and produce 450+ stories. It helped provide journalists across the country with unprecedented visibility into what was happening at the polls on Election Day.
At the Google News Lab, we look for opportunities to offer data and technology to help journalists do their jobs, especially during the moments when it matters the most. Increasingly, we’ve come to champion collaborative reporting models like Electionland that bring together multiple media organizations and technology companies -- marrying the best of traditional journalistic acumen with new data tools and technologies -- to cover important and complex issues and events.
