Hi, This is a technical question and so I want a detailed answer from experts.
I bought a 3g sim and cut to micro sim size to fit my smart phone. I do not get any symbol in the home screen to denote that my 3g sim is activated. But, Sim status says it as active. What symbol would be shown in homescreen if 3g sim is activated? or Will it not show any symbol like 3g.?
I have set the manual configuration to APN, as Bsnlnet as per the settings, but i do not know, whether the sim is actually activated. How to know? Please.
can you say how to get config settings for my samsung Galaxy j2 pro. I sent sms , my model no to 58355 but i get error . format not correct answer.
If the symbol is not shown, how to get it on my homescreen. Is there any way to check , that i have 3g sim. Old phone has 2g settings. I filled up a form and they have given me a simcard, and the tech officer cut that to micro sim to fit in to my phone. please

If your phone shows no service, your SIM has not been activated. If there are signal bars, your SIM has been activated. There is no separate activation for 3G.

Hi, Thanks for your answer. But how to know that 3g is activated. I already informed that i have applied for microsim from BSNL, which was given to me as normal sim, but cut by the tech officer to suit as microsim to my phone. I received a swap message to this effect from BSNL . Does that mean that all the details that were in the 2g sim has been incorporated in the new sim?
Will there be any difference in the phone screen, where you see the signal bars? I read in some article that 3g symbol or to that effect would be shown to the left side of the signal bars. Is it true?
I experienced fluctuations in the signal bars, which shown 100% always barring tech. glitch in 2g sim, is causing concern. Why? Recent version always improves everything. Then why fluctuations in the signal bars in 3g?
I also take this to the notice of help desk, which gives advise to start GPRS service. I did. Is it necessary to do that to have the 3g compatibility?
Why activate the GPRS. I received successful message of adtivating the same.
I already informed in the beginning query about my failing to activate the config sent thro sms , by push message on my new sim? Anyhow, i manually configured APN following sites instructions by entering manually.
I could understand most of them, in settings menu, but what is meant by default, supl . pl
After getting the GPRS, i find a kind of two horizontal lines near the signal . What it denotes?
Please , expecting reply

Hi, Please find the screen shot. I think it is enabling of GPRS . am i correct?
I ask you for a detailed reply on the queries raised as users would be benefited by this clarification of different type of sims. I do not know how to insert a jpg file. I find no option to enclose. it was a inverted htype of signal, blinking at the bottom, having boxes in the inverted ---- of two lines. Probably GPRS activation.

Upload the image at imgur.com and post the link here.

The image is wildly out of focus. I can't see anything. To take a screenshot press and hold home button and power button simultaneously. It'll be saved as an image in your phone. Upload that image here.

Hi, Thanks for citrus and itzm. Please clarify, why GPRS is to be activated to get the 3g connection. Now i lost the cell broadcast information of my nearest cell tower on moving. Does that stop, while upgrading to 3g.
Hi citrus,
Is there any way, to say that I have a 3g sim? Is there any settings in android that could give or get this information

You dont get cell broadcast information on 3g. you will get H+ symbol on home screen only if you activate mobile data. if you switch off mobile data you will not see any symbol. but you will be still connected to 3g n/w.

go to Settings -> About phone -> Status -> SIM status
if you find HSPA under Mobile network type, you are connected to 3g n/w
if you find GSM under Mobile network type, you are connected to 2g n/w

Thanks . I get HSPA+ or Hsupa, changing frequently. That means I am connected to 3g. I am asking how to know that I have 3g simcard.

If i am connecting thro Wifi, would that also get that h symbo or would that be shown in device status . Please say why GPRS to be activated to get 3g

There are no 3G/2G SIM cards. Every card is 3G enabled and depending on the coverage will show 2G or 3G on your phone. Even if you are connected via WiFi, you'll get the 3G symbol.

You don't have to activate GPRS to use 3G. You however have to enable cellular data (it may be mentioned in your phone as GPRS) to use 3G. In the above image, if I chose GSM, I'd be on a 2G (GPRS) connection. WCDMA would be 3G connection.
