Aadhaar Number is basically being pushed as a replacement for Pan Card

also do remember that a number of petitions are still pending with supreme court challenging the ruling that makes aadhaar mandatory for it returns. there are a number of people who are saying that they do not intend to file IT Return on principle as civil disobedience. but of course, that's something one has to decide on their own if they are ready to face the consequences.

If they are willing to pay fine then can delay till 31st March 2020. After that maybe fine and jail term with free food and accommodation provided with tax payers money 😀
 
the thing is that it is still possible to deposit tax without aadhaar. so there is no theft of income tax.
 
When enrolling for Aadhaar can we drop an initial in the name though it exists in the proof of id/age/address documents ?
 
not sure. people face problem filing it return if names do not match on pan card and aadhaar. so it might not be a good idea.
plus your enrollment could possibly got rejected.
 
I can do a legal change of name, but it may cost more money and time.

I think I will also stop signing and instead use thumbprint. Last week my kyc attempt with Paytm Money got rejected for signature mismatch in PAN. The nincompoops shrunk and distorted my signature to fit in a small rectangular space on the PAN card.

Using your fingerprints/iris scans for authentication is a major security risk. It can easily be lifted and used. To copy a signature you have to be an artist i.e. difficulty level is higher.
 
I applied for PAN correction with new photo and signature and it got rejected because of name mismatch in ID proof. Though the existing PAN does not have initials in my name, now they want it exactly as in proof if ID or ID proof to have name exactly as in the application. For many people the initials is not their name. shortened. Often it is the initials from father's first name, and some even have initials of their home town or village. Indian government is very messed up....I think I have to go for a legal name change to beat the system.

gotta love how they would not change their own fucking software because it can cause issues with their own records. but they are forcing you to connect your pan number with an id document that is not verified by the government or the body issuing it.
 
All they need to do is take the name with initials and also take a declaration from the applicant that he/she wishes to drop the initials. They still have the full name with initials in their records so the applicant can never claim it is not his name if there is any issues.

The PAN is to be linked to Aadhaar because it has issues like ghost and multiple pan per individual. Now they are saying their PAN records are pristine. They identify people with Permanent Account Number and if they connect it with Aadhaar number, how does the name or initials matter? Just do an online Aadhaar verification. OR are they expressing doubts about Aadhaar database and validations?
