Air India News & Updates

I wonder if anyone travels through Air India by choice anymore.

An official panel that recommended measures to enhance savings of ailing Air India, has suggested that the national carrier take cue from no-frill airline model and prune costs, including those on its 26,000-strong staff.

Reports say that all of these 'goodies' might be discontinued to cut costs.

Well i didnt see this in the report. Moreover what i feel is AI is not doing well because of the people who are above 35 still employed in the cabin crew as well as ground staff and at booking counters. They are good for nothing. And this is what exactly pointed in the report that the strength has to slashed and oldies have to go. Many times when i fly you get to 50yr ki aunty as air hostess.

I do travel by air india by choice. Solely because of cheaper tickets, meals served and in flight entertainment system.
Me too. Exactly the same reasons.

If you are travelling on economy class in a domestic flight on national carrier Air India, chances are that you may soon no longer be served a full meal within the ticket price but only snacks instead. If you want a full meal, you may have to pay extra. This is one of the recommendations of a government-appointed committee on cost-cutting for Air India that submitted its report to civil aviation minister Ajit Singh on Thursday.

The government is yet to take a final decision.
But if such a move goes through, it will position Air India somewhere between a low-cost carrier and a full-service carrier, sources said, adding that ticket-fares offered by Air India are often lower than even the low cost carriers which charge passengers on board for food. The Centre is expected to discuss each recommendation before a final decision is taken.

Another recommendation is to ask passengers to pay for preferential seats with more leg-room in the economy class. The committee has also proposed that the levy for upgradation of seats on flights be well-publicised to generate more revenue.

Still says snacks will be included in ticket. Which is more than enough. The snacks they serve will cost you well over Rs500 on an indigo flight

What is the snack might be a package of Rs. 10 Lays Chips which has I believe like 8 chips 😀

I used to travel by Air India too because it is cheaper..but then one day i happened to enter the toilet during international flight and i realized it is not worth the money i save. So now i avoid AIr India at all costs. They give Indians a bad name.

I actually like the food you can buy in IndiGo, much better than the horrible looking mess they serve in Indian Airlines.

I do not get it. Why is the airline food so horrible when most of them are in contract with renowned hotel chains!

lol. I hate those sandwiches and mini dosas you get on IndiGo 😛 Comes down to a matter of personal preference, I guess.
