Cherrinet Fiber Broadband Review

Website: Cherrinet

Plans:

My Plan: Basic 200 Mbps (symmetric) 2 TB. It is prepaid and the rental is Rs. 1768 per month including taxes. They also offer 6 months+1 free and 12 months+2 free if you're looking for longer validity. Static IP is available at Rs. 5000 a year.

Got my connection up and running on the same day I paid. The fiber cable terminates at your premises on a ZTE ONU. Connection is reliable and the speeds are consistent.

Conclusion:
I'm very satisfied with my Cherrinet connection. I highly recommend them if you are thinking about getting a connection. I don't suggest going for the longer validity plans given they update them frequently. You won't be able to change it till the subscription ends. Also make sure they put you on Airtel Transit. My speeds were all over the place when I was on Tata.

Pros:
  • Great speeds.
  • Less Downtimes.
Cons:
  • Overhead cabling.
  • You don't have the option to change your plan till it's validity expires.
  • Their Tata transit sucks to the core.

Let me know in the comments if you want me to test anything.

@Dg-p : oh ok.. One thing is clear from what you said and what I experienced... Their policies and principles are total bullshit...

stb offer doesn't make any sense, they should bundle Sunnext on local cache, they can charge premium for 4k masters so we could put unlimited plans to good use 🙂

only communique I received on the plan change is this email attach I received today

@Dg-p Nope, I haven't faced any downtime since Vardah. Speeds are consistent as well, be it peak or non peak hours, even after removing FUP.

I second this. This would actually work very well if they were to take on Jio Fiber.

@Dg-p: U missed my earlier posts in this forum.. In the process of upgrade, these idiots changed my plan from 150mbps till 150gb to 150mbps till 300gb for 1099... whereas cheaper 999 plan got upgraded unlimited without FUP.. Sad part, I paid for 6 months in advance n 3 more months left to change the plan..

^ Found this online..... This could help you.... Verify with CC.. Not sure what do they mean by live broadband bill of competition... Kudos to their English..

LOL! It just means that they need a bill for an active connection. This way they know are taking away an existing/active customer and his business from their competition, hence, the "competition churn" terminology.

also they offered a SD set top box with the 1299 plan and a HD one with the 1499 plan, having ~350 channels with 70 hd ones, I'm guessing this is to counter jio once they launch.
Has anyone tried the bundled STB?

BTW if I understand this right, in xPON they have a single fiber leading in with each apartment spliced in. Doesn't that affect bandwidth and/or cause packet loss/choke with everyone using the same fiber? Isn't the ACT method of having a router to sort out traffic better?

That single fiber strand can carry 2.5 Gbps of downstream and 1.25 Gbps of upstream traffic. I think Cherri uses 1:16 passive splitter and also not everyone are going to saturate their connection frequently so it will work out just fine 🙂

I'm not sure what you mean by ACT using a router to sort out traffic. Does ACT shapes certain traffic or enforces aggressive QOS?

Oh that's too bad, but the positive thing is 300gb is still good data. btw are you getting 150mbps speed?

I just paid Rs.3537 for a 3 month subscription (999 + 18% tax), they didn't charge for installation or deposit because of that offer you posted earlier. Like @Karan said they wanted my previous bill from airtel, only then the installation + deposit offer could be applied, that's what they meant by "live broadband bill of competition" . To make sure they're taking customers from competition 😛

Just got the connection today afternoon and its been great so far 🙂

the upload speed is the same as download while with airtel it was capped at 5mb/s. Another thing I noticed is the constant download speed that I'm getting, I downloaded a 4gb file and the download speed pretty much stayed at 11.2 MB/s throughout and got an average of 10.9 MB/s for the whole download, this was never possible on airtel, the best average on airtel was always 5 or 6 MB/s. I hope this isn't just because its a new connection and stays like this throughout.

I do manage >11MB/s speeds on my airtel connection on private and well seeded public torrents with no issues at all.

Since your was a VDSL connection, the upload, though disappointing, wouldn't have gotten much faster.

BTW, is yours a 100Mb plan?

Copper has its limits 😀

I too have able to saturate my 200 Mbps connection quite often though I've found direct http downloads to be better on Airtel. I always get the advertised speeds, be it a big name hosting provider or a random ftp site.
