Cherrinet Fiber Broadband Review

Website: Cherrinet

Plans:

My Plan: Basic 200 Mbps (symmetric) 2 TB. It is prepaid and the rental is Rs. 1768 per month including taxes. They also offer 6 months+1 free and 12 months+2 free if you're looking for longer validity. Static IP is available at Rs. 5000 a year.

Got my connection up and running on the same day I paid. The fiber cable terminates at your premises on a ZTE ONU. Connection is reliable and the speeds are consistent.

Conclusion:
I'm very satisfied with my Cherrinet connection. I highly recommend them if you are thinking about getting a connection. I don't suggest going for the longer validity plans given they update them frequently. You won't be able to change it till the subscription ends. Also make sure they put you on Airtel Transit. My speeds were all over the place when I was on Tata.

Pros:
  • Great speeds.
  • Less Downtimes.
Cons:
  • Overhead cabling.
  • You don't have the option to change your plan till it's validity expires.
  • Their Tata transit sucks to the core.

Let me know in the comments if you want me to test anything.

Edit: Updated on 30/12/16
Edit 2 (12/02/17): Not a single downtime since my last edit. Added fast.com speedtest result.
Edit 3 (07/04/17): Didn't face any downtime since Vardah.
Edit 4 (04/05/17): Added DSLReport speedtest. Yet to face any downtime.
Edit 5 (19/08/17): Cherri upgraded my plan to unlimited and the connection is still going strong. Added updated plans.
Edit 6 (11/03/18): Faced two downtimes which were quickly resolved. Updated speed test results.
Edit 7 (04/05/18): They don't offer unlimited anymore.
Final Edit (28/05/19): Cancelled the connection.

Speed got upgraded to 150Mbps to match ACT's plan. They added extra 50GB to my base plan as well

Yes, their services and the line quality is excellent but I don't think I'd be using Cherrinet in the long run as their higher tier plans are not appealing.

For comparison:

Their "Starter" and "Silver" plans when compared the speeds are doubled and the data is quadrupled but when the "Silver" and "Diamond" (My current plan) plans are compared you're actually getting lesser data while paying the double. The difference in speeds wont be noticeable at most of the times. Why offer a higher costing plan if I'm getting a better deal with two separate "Silver" plans. Too bad I've already paid for the Diamond in advance.

Airtel already offered me 850GB for the same price so I hope the 40Mbps Vfiber is available when I go for it.

Well, Cherrinet is down for the past one week in my area. Will update the post once it's fixed. :emoji_unamused:

Edit: Finally it was working yesterday, for like an hour before going down again.

which part of Chennai? they got the new fibre down my street but still yet to splice it to my ONU

Same here, saw them laying new set of cables couple of days ago and mine is yet to be spliced.

Edit: I just got a call from Cherrinet NOC. They said it will be done to all customers in couple of days.

Not at the moment but the guy during installation said they will cover all part of Chennai soon. Apart from this downtime which was expected, I had a pleasant experience with them.

got the connection resored, how are they compensating for this? Extra GBs or extending the days?

NOC guys said my validity will be extended for 15 days. If you didn't receive any, create a ticket on CRM requesting to extend yours.

I heard that they are in process of rebuilding their network from scratch so I would advice to wait for some time 🙂

have opened a ticket on CRM on the extension, my subscription is due next week, will see how they are going to handle it.

apparently Cherri and ACT had sub-contracted to same firm to restore the connections hence the chaos.
they had to restore from scratch close to 50,000+ connections in couple of weeks, monumental task.
