This arrived today and seems to be working fine. Though I realized the mistake soon enough. Ethernet ports in the front means that it is not really suited for home use. Designed for server racks. I have somehow managed to fit it under the table where it is not causing much of a mess. Still... Consider the lower end model (TP-Link TL-R470T+) which is probably a better model for home use.

I have configured it to switch from Excitel to Airtel when Excitel drops. If I take the Excitel cable out, switchover is instant. I have not any chance to see how long it takes when Excitel disappears from the backend. Nishant has the R470 model and he told me that it takes less than 10 seconds. Would post when I experience a downtime while I am sitting on the PC.

User interface of the load balancer backend is simple to understand. Performance seems to be good too. One major issue is that the ethernet ports are not gigabit so if your ISP is offering you 100mbps+ connectivity, these are not going to work for you. So this model is definitely not future proof.

It means both WAN1 and WAN2 has the same private IP range. Change one of them to another range i.e. 10.x.x.x with 255.0.0.0 subnet mask. If both your WANs are PPPoE based, let the load balance router handle the dial up by which you can avoid double NAT.
 
@Nishant One of then is Hathway and one of them is ADSL Airtel.

What is the best setup you suggest?

I do fail over only. I don't share the bandwidth.
 
As far as I know both of them are PPPoE based. For Hathway it should be pretty straightforward. For Airtel, setup their router in bridge mode and then configure PPPoE dialup on TP-Link router.

If these are too complicated for you, you can just change the router IP of Airtel to 10.0.0.1, subnet mask 255.0.0.0 and DHCP range from 10.0.0.100 - 200.
 
Is there any advantage of doing PPPoE on Load Balancer over the case of change IP of one of the modem?

the device has not received a software update since 2015 i believe. i think it is a software issue and since it is unlikely to get more updates... these issues are not going to be fixed.
there are not many load balancing options in this price segment. Asus has some premium models which can do load balancing. ubnt has some models that can do load balancing but you have to do some manual scripting on them i believe.
i am in no position to offer you any suggestion except to use the device in load balancing mode itself. set the Upstream/Downstream Bandwidth setting on second connection very low so that the ratio of bandwidth fetched from it remains low.

Thank you. I have purchased Edgerouter X. It has cool features. Especially, the firewall feature, I have done geo-ip blocking using ipsets. BTW, Edgerouter X is not easy to learn. It took me more than one month to learn this router nicely.
 
Was facing some issues. Decided to switch to OpenWrt. Turned out the problem was with the Ethernet cable. Liked the performance of OpenWrt. Decided to keep it. it is kind of a messy conversion though. Even bricked the device once. A friend did it all for me. I wouldn't have dared to do it on my own.
 
Yeah, I actually ended up couriering it because I did not want to do it myself. But seems to be running fine now on OpenWrt 19.07.3.
