so I asked my smoker friends if they change cigarette brands going by ads. They said they usually try different brands and stick with what they find most appealing. And they try to change brands only when their preffered cigarette brands get costlier.

I assume its the same for pan masala

Yup. When I was smoking, I think I largely stayed on three or four brands during the six seven year period. Ads don't matter. Navy Cut Marlboro Lucky Classic Mild. Lucky was probably my favorite of the lot but it just disappeared from the market.

Tobacco & Gutka ads are banned. Pan Masala acts as surrogate advertising I presume. Just like "Music CDs", Apple Juice & Mineral Water ads do for alcohol.

google tells me that pan masala is just another less crude name for gutka? or is it completely tobacco free? i really have no idea. i guess gutka might be pan masala + tobacco. gutka is supposedly banned in haryana. but i do see a lot of pan masala on sale on ciggie shops.

:!koala:

not even nicotine? why do people even bother?

Joke received on WhatsApp few days ago-

In India, Kids become successful by Boost, Women by Fair and Lovely, Men by Pan Masala,
Degree, Higer Education are just Myths 😀

Pierce Brosnan Responds to Controversial Indian Breath Freshener Ad

i am confused. he did a video ad for the company and he had no idea what he was advertising even?

“As a man who has spent decades championing women’s healthcare and environmental protection, I was distressed to learn of Pan Bahar’s unauthorized and deceptive use of my image to endorse their range of pan masala products,” the statement read. “I would never have entered into an agreement to promote a product in India that is dangerous to one’s health.”
Brosnan’s contract details that he was to advertise a “breath freshener/tooth whitener,” which wouldn’t include an ingredient that turns saliva red.
Brosnan said he agreed to advertise a single product only, and that it was presented as “all-natural containing neither tobacco, supari, nor any other harmful ingredient.”
“Having endured, in my own personal life, the loss of my first wife and daughter as well as numerous friends to cancer, I am fully committed to supporting women’s healthcare and research programs that improve human health and alleviate suffering,” the statement continued.

Doesn't seem surprising.

He may have been told its a mouth freshener. Probably would not have even heard of the word pan masala before.

Pierce Brosnan accuses Pan Bahar of misleading on product information | Best Media Info, News and Analysis on Indian Advertising, Marketing and Media Industry.
It seems that the actor’s contract details that he was to advertise a ‘breath freshener/tooth whitener,’ which wouldn’t include an ingredient that turns saliva red. The magazine reported that Brosnan had agreed to advertise a single product only, and that it was presented as ‘all-natural containing neither tobacco, supari, nor any other harmful ingredient.’
...
He added that Pan Bahar ‘grossly manipulated’ media outlets to falsely present him as a brand ambassador for their entire line of products, something he writes is ‘in violation of my contract.’
Looks fair from his side.
