Yes, one Uber driver told me about this 7-8 months ago.
He also said that it will be as cheap as ₹6/km for the customer, and that he has already signed up for that.
The initial contracts are of 30 months, and the incentives being are offered are much better than Uber.
reliance... destroying one market after another with mediocre services. cab on demand is already so mediocre. how worse can it get with the entry of reliance.
i am just happy that it would start the price war again if true. uber prices are insane these days. i switched back to jugnoo for local travel. paid 80 rupees for a local ride that would have costed me 150 bucks on uber.
do you really need buy a company when you just have to launch an app and enroll drivers who already have their own cars? uber and ola does finance cars but the number is likely to be minimal. even in this case, i doubt they can force the driver to use their own platform exclusively.
meru i believe has their own cars but their business model is completely different from ola/uber which means that buying them to compete with ola/uber would not be a logical step.
actually there were some drivers in hyd who claimed that reliance would be launching taxi app. This was ~1 year ago. I thought they were kidding but few people on reddit india from other cities too confirmed the same.
