Reducing the bandwidth

HiSince the BSNL honeymoon is over 🙁 ....i feel a great urge to reduce the bandwidth...How do i do that? My router is MT880, and it automatically logs on. I have 2 comps connected to a switch with the router connected to the switch.....now i dont want ppl to listen to streaming audio...and wasting the costly MB's.I think if i somehow reduce the bandwidhth all the unnecessary heavy usage will automatically stop...is there anything in the router we can configure to reduce the speed?I have a 256KBps Dataone....ORHow do i stop streaming audio and video?????Pls help.TIA
 
Man!!! u can do nothing to reduce the speed. One thing u can do is .Since u have 2 PCs a better option is to switch off the router when not in use to make sure that not data transfer takes place without ur knowledge.This is July 1 and its end my world. Bhoo Hooo........ :wacko: 🙁
 
am not exactly sure but i guess this programme: `downloadlimiter' may be able to help you.. am not sure.. Pupudada!

If your main machine has an incoming NIC and one for Outgoing traffic you can easily control speeds of the other PC's using LAN monitor softwares, I had one such software, will search my HD and let u know of it. You can control traffic based on IP/MAC of the other machines, in the internal network.
 
yes with netlimiter u can controll ur upload and download bandwidth.min allowable b/w is 1KBps

sorry `susubh' yep i meant to say `netlimiter... guess in my overenthusaism coined a new word.. hope that one fine morning i see that software too 😛 Pupudada!
 
I think the best way to limit Dataone bandwidth is to reduce it to zero, I mean, go to the BSNL office and tell them you don't want the worthless connection. Thats what I did.
 
Another software that can be used is DU supercontroler from http://www.homeqos.com/

You can limit the upload and download speeds of individual applications running on your computer. It is even password protected, i think, so that no one else can change the settings.
