To counter RJio, Airtel promises 135 Mbps 4G in Mumbai | Business Line

Gone are the days when you could get speeds of over 100 Mbps only on fixed line broadband network. Airtel has rejigged its network in Mumbai to offer up to 135 Mbps speed on your 4G mobile phones.

The operator has deployed 4G Advanced technology (carrier aggregation across TD LTE and LTE FDD) in Mumbai.

“The deployment will result in a superior 4G experience for Airtel customers through considerably faster data speeds and better coverage – indoors and outdoors. Customers with mobile devices that support 4G Advanced will be able to enjoy 4G data speeds of up to 135 Mbps,’’ Airtel said in a statement.

135 Mbps ka kya faida when 1 GB costs 250 Rs.

Poor Airtel.

Jio is also testing LTE aggregation and with 3 LTE bands, Jio will reach 170 Mbps.

All operators should start providing Plans with healthy Fup and the promised speeds at reasonable rate. 20mbps with 100gb cap @1000rs. Well I like to dream someday.

Yep, plans and data caps should be reasonable for sure. Forget about "truly unlimited, no-FUP" only the heavy leechers/downloaders who want it will end up abusing and clogging the network 😀

I think this (proper) use/deployment of 4G tech will tackle that age-old "last mile" problem, so ISPs don't have to put wires all the way up to your home.

If 4G can provide speeds approaching 100 mbps+ to your computer why bother with fiber (FTTH) etc. except to wire up to the towers themselves.

Same deployment of 4G towers can get you large number of mobile subscribers as well as "home internet" devices.

@vishalrao- Quality of service is more easily guaranteed on a physical line( even from the service provider's view point). I wouldn't really rely on the quality of a wireless network for anything important.

@Sizzler Depends on how you want to define "quality of service"... physical wired line can have cuts and other physical issues (like during monsoons, but mainly CUTS) 🙂 I'm thinking "quality of service" could actually be better and easier for ISPs to use the 4G towers to solve the last mile problem.
