Hi,Can anyone tell me why few subnets are accessible from my lan while others aren't.For eg, Till a few months back, I could access 10.10.117.0 & 10.10.110.0. But then one fine day they were inaccesible and have been so since then. Where is this configuration done?Regards,Swap0

These configurations are done at Sify's routers so we can't do anything about them as far as I've seen.

if they don't do that, then all the Sify users would be able to connect each other and then no one would need the Sify internet at all for file transfers and stuff 😀

I don't think so. IMHO , if people can share files over the network, there would be lesser redundant downloads. That in turn would mean people sucking lesser bandwidth from Sify internet. Sify can then do away with their sham 'umlimited' packs and people would be still happy, due to faster (and free) access to files. Sify would benefit from the reduced BW utilization. Also since Sify has one of the largest network, it can promote the access to all lans as a USP (The total files shared by all Sify users must be huge i assume). It would be a win-win situation for everyone. Please correct me if my thinking is distorted But then knowing Sify, I doubt whther they will ever think on those lines. They are just happy ripping off customers while they can.

Well just think how much bandwidth will be saved if Sify downloads all latest movies/games/apps and puts them up on their FTP so that all its users can then download it from Sify Servers at blazing speeds, that way only one copy of the movie/music etc will actually be downloaded from the internet the others will be shared over their intranet , but that will attract huge legal problems

Right. Sify putting stuff on their own ftp server would cost them legally (apart from the massive storage space needed). But instead if they simply allow inter LAN access, I doubt if they would face any legal problems. The users would be sharing at own risk, not at Sify's risk. Also the disk space would be that of the users.

Well, I think they blocked it to prevent their useless servers from getting virus infected. At least they believe that is why their servers get infected. What fools - don't they know that ISPs are supposed to remain up even with all their ports open?

Yeah! It would be great for file sharing if they opened up access to all their LANs. But I am uneasy about what the effect on network security would be.

well sham, ur thinking is not distorted and i whole heartedly agree with u, but do u still think that Sify thinks about the users?????????????? 😀 :lol:though security will be at stake then 😱

With Sify, security would be an issue even today.Today also, inter LAN access is available for few groups of subnets. So one has to take security precautions even now. The same would apply if internet access was allowed. Only there would be more subnets and more malicious users to contend with. But the steps involved to protect oneself would remain the same I guess. No, I don't believe Sify thinks about users.BTW I don't believe Sify 'thinks' at all. Certainly not the droids manning the customer harassment lines.

I know one tool by which we can share our files to each other on Sify network but its not performing good in sharing bulky files.... like movies and games......... as soon as the connection breaks for even one packet it start from the zero.......:madness: Anyway you have give a try to IP MSG..... Rgds,Nitin
