I talked to one of the local companies which said that four cameras would cover the entire front and side of our house. I am for now planning to get a single camera to cover the area which is the most essential for monitoring the parked car on the side of the house.

Now, this is the first time I am trying to get a CCTV camera so I have no idea which brand to get and what quality of cameras are available. The guy I talked to said that the camera he was offering had HD quality (!) and was 1.3 megapixel (or 3.1? I don't clearly remember).

I am hoping to get a camera that can take images good enough to recognize faces directly in line of vision.

Any kind of personal experiences and feedback would be helpful.

I actually need the camera to cover the parking on the side of my house along with the electricity meter on the other side of the road. Which is why I was hoping to get something better.

I am also in the same shoes, got sold a 4 channel DVR, the software support is abysmal. Trying to connect to web UI on network needs a plugin that is now non-existential. The silver lining I think is the the cams are not at as shitty as I thought they'd be, at least for now?

What setup did you get? Also did you face any issues with using the web UI

Sounds like the same shit I have 😂

Only on tv and ezviz app. There is a shitty desktop Java app that sort of works.

I am now regretting it even more. Even though I have connected the DVR to the local network using a wifi adapter, the local IP keeps changing and I can't seem to give it a static IP (the MAC somehow also keeps changing), still though that does not solve the accesiblity issue as no browser supports the ancient webUI it except IE.

How do you view it on the ezviz app? Is your DVR connected to your local network?

Ezviz iirc can detect dvr box on local network. Hikvision TV ui should have a qr code for online access iirc.

Yup. It's connected to airtel router. Sadly not to the primary excitel network. Too lazy to lay down separate wire for it. Dad mostly watch it on tv. It's mostly there because it's there. The two three times we did need footage of for one reason or the other, quality was not good enough to make the face recognizable.

Seems like this is more or less a DOA purchase. Will have to look for better stuff, any suggestions to reputable solutions? Don't want to wander through dealers upselling utter shit again

Go for ip cameras I guess. I never cared to look for a replacement for the setup we have tbh. It's better than having nothing with three cars parked outside the house. Other folks here might have better ideas... In the end... You really need higher quality cameras if you want to cover a larger area outdoors. These cameras are only good when focused on a limited area. If you want faces to be captured clearly.

Smart cameras might record on movement, alert you on movement and so on. Again not suitable for public areas outside the house if you also are aiming for that kind of usage.

True. I had one dealer sell me wireles cameras with inbuilt storage, but don't know if those would be reliable having outdoors. Will have to go out and explore options. But then again as you said this is better than having nothing.
