I am planning to get a Laptop from US. A friend is coming to India and he would be able to carry it for me.
Now, I can get a Mac but there are three problems.
First... Leopard is scheduled to launch later this month and Apple might update their MacBook range with it.
Second. Even if I get a Mac, i am not sure whether any of the wireless internet cards shipped by umm reliance, tata indicom, airtel are compatible with Mac OS X... Coz I remember seeing Windows only software/dialer to use them.
Third: Any idea on whether Apple's warranty on Laptops sold in the US is globally valid?
Any comments?

yes warranty should be globally valid...my ipod was serviced by them here in delhi which i bought in UK.do not think if they should have other policy for macbook...also if you are planning to use pirated mac software on that notebook you might receive a love letter from them sayin first and last warning and they might also send someone to your doorsteps to get them uninstalled...it happened with one of my friends who installed photoshop (pirated) on macbook..though he is a noob at computer usage and might not know firewall tricks...also the new macbook leopard does not allow highdef content to be played from harddisk..you need to have a bluray/hddvd disk.

i think Apple care protection plan cost a bomb.
and no plans to run pirated software on the mac. i might get apple iworks which is pretty cheap at 79 dollars. i might even end up using ubuntu on it on a dual boot.
i plan to use it on the move basically. that's why i needed the answer to how to get mobile internet on it.
Gimp should have a version for it. Or I just might buy Pixelmator 🙂

Apple computer is a rich man's toy. If you have money to burn go ahead and buy it. For the average joe, apple computers is not a smart choice.Having said that, the 'Apple' experience is unique. Once you start using it, you wll not be able to use a PC again.It's like having to drive a maruti after driving Rolls Royce. 🙂Apple makes beautiful classy products. The problem is that one has to pay through their nose to experience it!For eg. the cheapest mac is the mac mini which costs like 40,000 rupees. (No keyboard, mouse, monitor)I have been lusting after the Apple laptop for quite some time now, but I just can't afford it. 🙁Sorry about my long ramblings. My whole point is if you have money to spare go for it. The user experience of a Mac is unbelievable. You will marvel at the attention to detail given by Apple to the smallest of things like minimizing a window, the gorgeous animations and stuff... 🙂
