Hey everyone!
I'm MTNL user since ages and it always worked fine for me. But from last two weeks I'm facing weid problem with my ADSL as soon as I shifted on 4mbps plan. So, the problem goes like this:
Internet disconnects and never connects again until I disconnect everything for 4-5 hours on every other ADSL modem(TP-Link W8968/Netgear DGN2220v4). But it works like charm on crappy non-wifi modem(Sterlite SAM300AX) which MTNL gave me years ago.

I even tried using other modems as router only by connecting ethernet on wan port but no luck. I tried every possible thing including upgrading an downgrading firmwares on my routers but nothing gave me stable connection.

I'm pretty sure I've configured modems correctly as I'm using Netgear router for more than 3 years.

Not sure if you guy know this quirk on not: Keep you landline connection engaged for stable connection. I've even removed handset from landline phone. 😛😀

So, what can I complain to MTNL babus to convince them that there's some issues with line even when the connection works just fine on their modem?

Go to advanced setup on your wifi modem, find DSL settings, uncheck all except G.DMT and T1.413, apply settings, modem will reconnect. Then check whether it's working. Hope it works for you.

try with G.lite On too, if it's not working, then I have no idea... MTNL has lots of strange issues..

This happening with me too. For past 2 weeks. Same 4 Mbps Plan. D-Link router. Happens every weekend. ADSL doesnt go back to normal, unless, I disconnect modem for 3-4 hours. There is NO ADSL light in the modem at all!!!

I have been this problem for months. Basically need to engage phone only then my connection works. Some times without it. I like 2 kms from exchange and had 8 MBPS plan which worked fine but now shifted to 2 Mbps plan to see whether line is stable or not.
When mtnl works it works great but once it's down then It's a pain. I have D-Link DSL-2750U modem btw.
Did some one noticed form past some weekends my speeds increase to 8 Mbps though I am on 2 Mbps plan(My speed sinc rate is 9215 Kbps which was not changed when I downgraded my plan). This is partially because http://register.mtnldelhi.in/ is down on weekends.
But now Airtel has come to my society so would shift to it. Mtnl increases BP when it does not works 😛

I have had this phone picking up issue. Its because of line problem. Your area's lines are old or have some fault. And i doubt that they are going to get fixed soon.

Tried that as well along with other combinations. Nothing worked.

Yeah! It's happening to me from April 1st - MTNL made fool of me and yesterday I bought new TP-Link modem. This morning I read somewhere to put static values in bandwidth control (512kbps - upload and 4096kbps - download) and miraculously internet came back online. Just after an hour I realised it didn't affected ADSL anyway.
I'm going to downgrade to 2mbps if problem persists.

Well, my landline is engaged for past 8-9 years - 128/256kbps days and I put up barely 600-700m from exchange. You're right about MTNL. It's very much reliable if compared with any other ISP. There were few times when it worked for me with no downtime for years.

Even I think I had to downgrade to 2mbps plan which was working great for me.

Yep. This 4 Mbps thing is weird. Even I will downgrade if this weekend thing goes on.
Do you guys have Nextra or anything else at your places?

MTNL is launching FTTH with them.
I made a thread. Give it a read 🙂

Hi, even my connection goes off on weekends, it doesn't work only. and i'm on 2 mbps plan and face frequent disconnections daily due to bad mtnl line. problem starts on saturday afternoon or evening and continues till sunday night. No access on weekends from past 2 weeks.

Bump! Any solutions? I even complained MTNL, babus came and left by saying "Humne na ye computer(Win10 & OSX) chalaya kabhi, na hi yeh modem(TP-Link & Netgear) use kiya hai...". Yesterday, all of sudden ADSL worked on all three routers but not today.

Why on earth ADSL status is down on Wifi modems but not on Sterlite SAM300AX???

does the WiFi frequency create any noise for the line?? I know this statement might be lame even if I am an Engineer.

Anyways,
Try doing this:
1) Check whether you have wired your connection properly. Make sure all connections are tight/properly inserted. If this is ok and still it's not working, go ahead.
2) Reset modem settings and reconfigure your modem. Make sure you are using all correct inputs (Vci:32, Username: number@a, etc). Reboot and check if working (wait for sufficient time). If not, try next.
3) Go to Wireless>Advanced>Change Channel from 1 to 6. Reboot & Check.
If this doesn't work,
4) In same settings page as in 2), select bandwidth as 20MHz instead of Auto/40Mhz. Reboot, check if working.
If this also doesn't work,
5) Disable DHCP and use static address to connect to the modem. Also, use Google DNS.
If this does not work, curse MTNL.

Follow up:
My problem got solved by itself. I had smooth ADSL for more than a week. Right now, I thought of switching back to old modem and voila! ADSL down again. I also found it was working fine on dead phone line - not sure from when. Just done with registering a complain, lets see what happens tomorrow.

Wish me Luck!!

I'm going to miss GoT S06E03:russianroulette:
