Hi everyone, I will be sharing my tata indicom experience in this thread and will try to give an unbiased view of my opinion. Had come to bangalore 2 months ago. the first thing i did before checking out which broadband connection to go for was to visit this site. Found a lot of opposition to tata indicom. everyone was gung ho about airtel on this site. Finally decided to choose airtel. Called the customer care. They said within 2 days would revert back with feasibility of connection. They did not call me so i called them on the 3rd day. They said that they cannot provide a connection to me. The reason being all connections were full. This was pretty frustrating and i talked to the area sales manager of the area and told him that "how on earth can you refuse giving a connectcion to me". he said he is sorry but he cannot provide it. i asked him for a timeline and he said he could not give me one. I waited for around 2 weeks thinking about what to do. finally decided to take the plunge and go for tata indicom. The guys very very prompt in collecting the money and all formalities. The first thing that i like about tata indicom is their tarrif structure. it has plans for all kinds of user needs. I took Quick power 360 (2mbps for 360 hours, 6 months validity). if fits my bill perfectly as i have a laptop which i use both at office and home. so i need something which can give me good speed. i think only bsnl provide a plan similar to this but its too long a wait. They told me i will have a connection in 7 days. after 7 days i was frustrated that nothing happened. i called up the sales guy and he told me 10 days. i called up the area sales manager and he never picked up my calls. but atleast the sales guy was pretty prompt in picking up calls. Their call centre sucks and is no use in such situations. after 12 days i called and he said sir please wait for saturday ( it was tuesday that day). i told him i am cancelling my cheque as i am frustrated and then he puts up this silly argument that you've waited for 12 days, what's 4 more days. i was seriously thinking about cancelling my cheque but somehow i thought trying airtel again might take even more time. the engineer came on saturday and gave me his own number in case of any queries. also told me that delay was because they had to set up a new server ( which even the sales guy told me about at the time of taking money - he had said 7 days then). also said that earlier we used to tie up with cable operators but there were issues with that and now they do the entire thing themselves I got my connection on 24th june. i only connect during nights and entire day on weekends. it costs rs 8.5 per hour but for 2mbps its worth it. till today i have always got consistent speeds of 200KBPS ( yes capital B = 1.6Mbps) minimum whenever i connect to the net. The speeds are really amazing. i have had one day of disconnection till now. i did not call the call centre and called the engineer. he told me they were extending the line as they had to set up a new server there. told me it woudl work the next day. the next day without informing me in advance 2 guys from tata indicom came to my place and checked if my connection was working. that was something i never expected from the tata guys. Recently i had an issue with billing. i have a prepaid connection. it was 1pm and i was just checking my usage and it showed that i was billed for net use upto 3 pm for that day !! i was billed for time that had not even happened !! i called up the call centre and he said he'll do something about it. for the next week i was not able to check my broadband usage itself. i thought these guys had simply cut my viewing capabilities itself. anyway i checked yesterday and it worked. i've been too lazy to track down 17 rs of overbilling. in fact the service has been so good that i don't mind being overcharged 10% also. overall i'm happy with this connection and tata would be my first choice in the future too. let's just hope they don't dissapoint me in the future. i guess my experience has been like "crazysah" till now. It's not even a month till now but still i love my speeds. i download on an average 700 mb per hour from link-removed.com torrents depends on availability but i've gone to 150 KBps Will update this thread in case anything new happens in my broadband experience 🙂

I have similar experience with MTNL in Bombay. They did not give a connection to me even though I have a landline from MTNL. Had to go far TATA Indicom..

My connection is not stable, but speeds are amazing once it does work.

wow first post and he already knows crazysah!!

wow first post and he already knows crazysah!!

i guess that's because i read up almost all posts talking about "never take tata indicom" and crazysah being the only one to defend it. i've had my frustrations with tata indicom but they've been shortlived and the speeds make me forget everything else.

oh ok. well just hope tatabb stays as good with u

Nice to hear a positive comment about Tata Broadband. May be they are changing for good.

thanks murphyslaugh for posting your experience!

I am facing the same problem in Bangalore only.
earlier I was staying at Indiranagar (100ft road , CMH road junction) and i had hathway connection for quite some time.

about 2 months back I shifted to a new apartment just few hundred meters from my last flat.

when I called up Hathway to move the connection they said that they dont provide connection there.

so I went to BSNL as my friends are using it and the speed is quite good and it's the cheapest in the market.

but they said it's going to take 3 months to get the broadband !!!!!
that to in Indiranagar, one of the best locality in Bangalore!!

then i called up Airtel and had exactly the same experience as you !
after making me wait for quite a few days they told that they cant give the connection as their capacity is saturated!!

I never expected this from Airtel atleast !

they told me in about a month the problem would resolve and they might be able to give a new connection to me.

I waited for one more month then mailed them ....and again the same thing! they can't give it!!

so finally i called up Tata-indicom today !
let's see if they can give it or not!

one more thing ,
I download a lot (that's why i always preferred unlimited connection )
as you have already taken a new connection from Tata you might have reviewed all their schemes, it would be great if you could suggest me some package which you feel is good.

Even i download a lot. (around 2 gb minimum per day).

If you prefer not to wait for a long time for downloads to complete and don't mind paying Rs 8.5 per hour i found Quick power 360 (2mbps) the best plan for it. I am able to d/l 700mb per hour from link-removed.com which fits my bill. also i'm not connected for more than 4-5 hours per day and it works really well for me. Average monthly bill comes to approx 1800 with heavy usage.

But this is not the most cost effective.

If you have a computer which you do not mind leaving on for the whole day, unlimited plans are unbeatable. Their only downside is you will have to wait for a long time. That's the worst thing about them in my opinion. If you do not mind waiting you could go for a 256kbps or 512 kbps plan also. I personally feel that the 512kbps plan priced at Rs 1850 from tata indicom is a decent bet.

The only other point i would like to make is that initially you might have a lot of stuff that you want to download but in the long term i really don't see too much of a difference in quick power 360 and unlimited 512kbps for tata indicom assuming both are used to the full for 2 months. i'd rather go in for tata quick power 360 in that case.

If it pinches your pocket then 256kbps would be a decent bet. You should be able to d/l around 15-20 gb per month at ease.

Also if you want 0 installation charges (min 4 months for post paid or 6 months for prepaid)

quick power 360 - 3600 approx - 0 installation charges
infinity 256 - 3600 approx - 0 installation charges
infinity 512 - 7400 approx - 0 installation charges

I would take into consideration average expected d/l per month and cost and make my decision accordingly

Do let me know in case you need additional details on this

i have been using the tata 512k plan for abt 4 months now....i am really happy with the connection.....great speeds n minimal downtimes....and of late even the CC has improved quite a bit!

thanks murphyslaugh for such an elaborate reply! 🙂

you download 700mb per hour from link-removed!!
then you must be paying for the premium account...
i don't want to pay them!!

i prefer torrent to link-removed because it's much easier to find anything easily there and it's free.
and as the super fast connection is not going to make a huge difference for torrent as the speed is dependent on seeder's connection speed also.

so i'd prefer to go for some unlimited connection.

but for the time being i am just wishing that my area is feasible for tataindicom.....
let's see.

I am having Tata Inndicom/VSNl 128kbps unlimited postpaid plan in HSR layout for around a month and although I had around 1.5days of downtime this week, I am quite happy with the connection.- Neeraj

week is of 3.5 days (rest night) and 1.5 days its down, even then ppl are happy

Can murphyslaw confirm whether broadband is from ...tata teleservices or indicom ?also is the connection coming over treetops or underground.

My broadband connection is from "Tata Indicom".As far as i know the lines laid out by tata are not via cable operators but their own. i'm not really sure if its underground or treetops.
