Paying for your auto ride through your mobile wallet is also an option in Noida now. Out of the 9,000 autos that currently ply in the city, some 1,000 have tied up with Paytm, the country's largest mobile commerce and payments platform.
Auto drivers say shifting to Paytm plaftorm has solved the problem of keeping change all the time.
"Increasingly many auto drivers are converting to Paytm. It takes no time. Also when a customer doesn't have cash or exact change, mobile transfer is the best possible method of transfer. I also use this service to charge my phone, or transfer money to someone's account," Anup Sarkar, an auto driver in Noida, said.
Commuters seem to be equally happy. "More and more people like us are switching to mobile wallets here for small and recurring payments - not only because it has cut the need for keeping cash all the time, but due to the paybacks the users get for using mobile money," said Mayank Singhal, an IT professional who works with a Noida-based company.
