I am confused. What's the name of the company? They are the first company to launch a smartphone powered by Snapdragon 820 I believe. Is this the phone they are launching next week in India?

I am not seeing any originality here.

I think they're officially launching mobile devices in India, and not the one with SD820. The one with SD820 hasn't been launched anywhere I guess and just showcased in CES.

Afaik it is a completely independent entity and not owned/co-owned by existing players.

The phone launching in India is the Letv Le Max and Le 1s according to various reports. The Le Max is the one with 4GB RAM + 128GB storage.

seriously. these companies need to have someone funding them or providing them the base to be able to secure deals with qualcomm and the likes! it's insane how many companies china is churning out on a monthly basis in indian market.

It is/was mostly funded by the CEO of Oppo IIRC. Both companies pretend that it was just an investment and there is no other connection.

Not when a company is completely funded by a single guy and is in the same industry as that guy and is targeted at a market (usa) where the parent company has zero chance of success.

You do not just get access to high quality components without having solid funding and backing from the right people. OnePlus had that. And they continue to have it without the sales figures. It is unlikely that they are making any profits from their operations. But they have created a brand that is well known globally which is something Oppo could not have achieved by launching similar devices in the US market with their own brand.

There is a reason why Lenovo acquired IBM's PC Business and Motorola. To get entry into the US market where Lenovo name just would not sell on its own.
