I think they're showing fake coverage, if the current level is on display. There are many outdoor spots in Mumbai where airtel doesn't have adequate 2G, yet their map shows blanket coverage across the city.

Already mentioned its showing outdoor coverage only. Mumbai is completely different due to high rise buildings, also airtel 2g is on 1800mhz in Mumbai. Better check their 3g coverage which is on 900 band but again can't differentiate between 3g n 4g.
For places I know have towers is showing same in map. So kind of showing correct info imo.

That's coz even for 2100band in delhi airtel has not added 3g to all the sites. same here zero improvement with idea 900band 3g infact airtel 3g is better indoor.

I have to switch to 2G to get OTP in the basement 😛 Not sure who to move to now that all the three players are crap.

Rcom (with Aircel on ICR). Worthwhile if:
1. You spend most of your time within city/town limits.
2. Have tried and found remaining networks to be inadequate.
3. 3G sucks in a couple of areas

Also, how's Idea's own 3G in Gurgaon in general?

On road, I have not faced any issues. I do not download so it's mostly maps, photo sharing on twitter/g+ and sometimes a youtube video here and there. has been pretty good. i mean it works great if i stick to 2G indoors for calls and 3G once i get out of the house. no internal feature on android to program the phone to do that automatically 😛 could be done with ifttt or tasker i guess.

OTP does not come on 3G even when there is good signal and I can take calls! I am making a payment and waiting for OTP. It does not come. I realize that phone is on 3G. I switch it to 2G. Seek the OTP again. And bam, two of them comes together.

But yeah... At least they are coming. Some of the OTPs never used to come in early days. Or maybe they were coming but I was not getting them because I was on 3G network :\

lol. nope. pgportal complaint was responded with a call where the guy said that otp bypass their network completely and they have zero control over its delivery. not sure if it's true. the bigger annoyance with idea is that they reject all dnd complaints.

yep spam messages and calls have increased for my mom after porting to idea. I am taking her back to airtel, her phone batteries drains very fast thanks to idea network.
Registering complaint on idea app did made some difference but after airtel data share feature I am getting everyone on my family to airtel prepaid. one data recharge enough for 5sim cards.
