Why don't you put your phone on 3G mode at home and find out difference yourself.

3G is giving slightly better battery life than 4g, maybe because 3G shows 2 bars whereas 4g shows only 1. so signal strength may be related to battery life too (whether you use Data or not).

Signal is indeed related to battery life. Put it on 2G mode to yield max backup.

So Vodafone has this weird requirement for 4G to work on your existing 3G plan. You need to have atleast 1GB of unused data balance on your plan. Came to know about this today when a colleague was struggling to find out why 4G wasn't working on his 4G compatible phone with a 3G data plan active.

Good for them. I am just waiting to port my secondary no to jio.

ek to network ghatiya

Are you using a prepaid connection ?

I am facing no such issue, even when my monthly data balance is 50 mb. 4g works fine.

But they hiked my monthly rental charges citing market conditions. Guess they are trying to extract as much as possible from existing clients as they know most of them will port to jio soon. But the question is ...where is jio ???

Vodafone's LTE service has been nothing short of a major disappointment in Mumbai Suburbs. Even with full signal strength at home, I'm getting pings north of 150ms and download speeds capping out at 8 Mbps. The situation at my workplace is even worse! The speeds there never go above 500 Kbps! They're trying to offer similar plans as airtel and Jio, but their network doesn't seem capable enough to handle the amount of data that people are consuming.

To remain till they add 2500mhz aka band 41 brought in last auction which would add major capacity.
Though Voda is stalling infrastructure spend till idea merger is done.

iPhones n xiaomi already do, samsung has active in pushing updates for most model in post 2015.
If they strart I think most manufacturer would push except desi chineese rebrands.
Band 41 is supported by all high end phones. Exynos and Snapdragon both. And almost all mid range phones too. Hence no update required. Certain entry level phones with mediatek and SD 625 proc also supports band 41 but handset manufacturer did not pay add on license to Snapdragon for getting niche bands like 41 and 1 hence they will never get it...
