Microsoft Lumia 650

Windows 10 Mobile is great, totally different from WP8. But still don't keeps your hopes high. Some things are still bad. Like screen going blank for few seconds, Cortana not working, delays sometime. But this issue I observed on my Lumia 830 which is upgraded from WP8 to W10M. I hope Lumia 550/650 does not have these issues as it may already have updated device drivers.
Let us know your first-hand experience with W10M 🙂

I recently (few days ago) got the base model 550 for my mom and updated to latest xxx.218 OS and xxx.41011 firmware released this month, there were some UI/functionality glitches and occasional app crashes but seems to be pretty stable after hard reset.

Of course this has only few apps being used like email, facebook, skype, whatsapp, Edge - no cortana being used here nor advanced stuff like Hello or Continuum available of course 🙂

Basic phone calling and SMS/email at least is stable - which is mostly what we need - we don't do fancy stuff on mobile phones.

Battery life with moderate usage is good (lasts around 2-3 days) but of course I've tweaked whatever settings I could to minimise background activity and data transfers.

I find W10M pretty smooth at the moment but not as buttery super smooth fluid UI animations like there was in WP 7.x and 8.x on much lower end devices like HTC HD7 (mine - single 1 ghz CPU core!!! - 6 year old phone!) and Nokia Lumia 635 (Aunt's). People say it's smoother on the 650 model so will wait to see how that turns out if/when I get that phone for myself maybe in 1-2 months timeframe.

Overall I would still think the current released "stable" versions of W10M should also be considered in "Beta" state (performance and stability wise) but looking forward to the upcoming "Anniversary" or "Redstone" releases in few months time - then it should be much better.

Redstone/Anniversary is going to add even more features 🙂
I just hope OS also becomes more stable.

They never made any real progress, except for Cortana everything was undercooked..
Making open source might have had any impacts..and they could have sustained IMO

Microsoft has quietly hinted that they would exit from hardware business and let OEM (like HP currently) handle Windows Mobile flagship smartphones.
Microsoft may return with "Surface Phone" in future, but it could be Business phone only.

Microsoft has almost doomed all brands it acquired from Nokia. While Nokia is making comeback in Smartphones again by end of 2016.

@volcano619 I suggest you purchase extra battery for Lumia 550/650 which you have incase you are planning to use these phones for next 2-3 years, because soon there would be no service available for these phones as well.
I am thinking same (get extra battery) for my Lumia 830, as I intend to use it for next 1-2 or may be 3 years (atleast as a backup phone 🙂)
