^ This happened few years ago during the pilot run of automatic doors when it was installed in one compartment of a normal non-AC local in WR. The passengers weren't aware of it and thought the door had jammed. Hence they tried to force open the door.

Imagine convincing the people about this on a 8am Virar local or a Borivali local. It will be interesting to see their reaction.
In a way it's good that the doors remain closed for safety reasons but the crowd in the trains is so much these days that even 15 bogie local seems insufficient.

Mumbai Central to be renamed as Nana Jagannath Shankarsheth station, seven other local stations too to get new identity

Earlier too, several Mumbai local railway stations have been renamed.

The stations which presently carry colonial names and set to be renamed include Curry Road station which will be called Lalbaug, Sandhurst Road station which will be called Dongri, Marine Lines to be renamed as Mumbadevi, Charni Road as Girgaon, Cotton Green as Kalachowki, Dockyard as Mazgaon, King’s Circle as Tirthankar Parswanath and Mumbai Central as Nana Jagannath Shankarsheth.
