I have a den Boomband connection installed at home with the modem installed by den team... I would like to extend the connection to another router on different floor using Lan cable. Which router to use? Can I use modem with router from D-Link for the same?

Thanks for the help

Hi Rajiv,

I have the same query since I am using MTNL with TP-Link ADSL2+ 300 which is accessible through all floors in my house. But Now as I want to shift to DEN boomband, where they are saying that you need to install another router if you want to access on another floor. Are you using any other router with your DEN connection ??

so anyone here on den boomband? the guy was not very clear on the phone. he told me that i would need a router with rj45. and he also said that an optical fiber cable would come to my place. he told me that they offer customers this router (Tenda N301 Wireless N300 Easy Setup Router). this seems like a regular wireless router with no input for optical fibers. what exactly am i missing here?

i can only assume that they have a device that takes in optical fiber and outputs to rj45. which is what they would give me from their side. and the wireless router is just to get wireless internet.

If they were providing you FTTH, then they would need to install an ONT, since they are advising you to get a wireless router, that would mean the ONT is a non wifi model.

However, when checking on the net, on this forum and even their amatuerish website the way they provide internet is via coax cable i.e DOCSIS. So am not sure if they just used the term "fiber cable" think you like most customers wouldn't be able to distinguish the two. If that is the case, the cable modem would be a non wifi model, as are most. You would need to hookup your router to it and should be good to go.

i guess would need to find out if the actual device is included in installation (800 bucks or free if 3 months advance payment is made). the guy on the call was not very clear about what hardware i would need. he kept on saying that i would need that Tenda model i linked above.
would try to visit their office and get more clarification tomorrow. excitel is still being a nightmare. every 10 minutes router would stop responding till i disconnect and reconnect.

If they do provide over cable, then you can hookup any router, they are recommending that as they most likely familiar with its interface and setting it up, and it doesn't cost much at all, easy way out.

i would eventually need to connect it to the load balancer which is then connecting to the actual wireless router. do not want to add yet another device in the middle!

so in the end if i do have to deal with rj45 output, it can directly go to the load balancer.

Yup, the cable modem is well, a modem, it has an RJ45 port to which you hookup your networking device, in your case a load balancer.

chalo. let's hope he can confirm this when i visit him tomorrow. now wondering if i should pay for installation or risk paying for three months to get free installation. installation costs as much as the cost of the internet for one month so its a question of 1600 (for one month) vs 2400 (three months).

i have stopped keeping track. i put both excitel and den on load sharing basis and left it on the router to sort it out. i imagine most of the time i end up using excitel as speeds and latency are pretty good. when i was using den as my primary connection, it was mostly a disappointment compared to excitel. there was lag everywhere. excitel peering with popular web services mean that i am too used to youtube videos loading instantly and play store downloads at peak speeds. den does not have that for me. speeds were pretty awful during the evening time. and the sole time i complained, the dude asked me to check speeds on den's own server which were fine so they refused to accept that there was anything wrong with their connection.

i have prepaid den for three months and i have 2 months left on that connection. i plan to continue paying excitel. i have not decided if i would continue to pay den as i also pay for an airtel connection (for the static ip for cctv and landline). paying for three connection seems too much for me as i barely use two of them at any given time. airtel v-fiber is still stuck on 16mbps so i am not upgrading to it yet. basically speaking... i am not impressed with den. i would not dump excitel for den. largely because by the time two months would be up, rains would be gone for good. it does tend to stay alive during rains while excitel disappears so this is one thing going for them. but other than that, it has been mostly been a disappointment.

if i did not have excitel as an option, i would of course use den. but they have very little to offer to me over excitel. it costs more. support is just as bad. stability is better. local guy does not seem to have a functional website so i have no idea how future payments would be made. i am not a fan of paying cash to a guy who comes to my place so this is another area where excitel has an advantage. but of course, excitel has its own range of issues due to overselling.
