I was just d/l some s/w and it reads 37.5 KB/Second at that time continuously and 7 MB was thru in less than 3 minutes. What does it mean in term sof speed as we measure Dataone.

multiply by 8 to get the figure in Kbps 🙂1 byte = 8 bits1 KB = 1024 bytes37.5 KB = 300 kbyou got 300 kbps!

Thats a fine speed for BSNL to dleiver for my 256 connection. I am on a another s.w from another site and clocking between 33-37 KBps.But my office connections clocks much lower. Something fishy in that bloody line.

maybe u surf when a lot of other users are online as well sucking away the bandwidth?

My office timings are 10 to 8 and I get the worst speed from 10 to 5 and then also after 5 the speed is just about Ok and sometimes frustrating. At the same time if I leave home late at say 11 or 12, I get decent speed at the home.It could be distance from the exchange which does the damage or could be something wrong at their end. I need to really check this up next week.

The slowdown during the office hours (10am-8pm) is due to the online share traders. 😀

You bet, I hate these online traders......they are online thru-out the day and kill the speed of others. I wish they took a sperate package and not put the load on our routes.Does the speed of others also fall during the day time drastically.

they do not lay down the wires from the ISP. it is BSNL or any other ISPs responsibility to see that a commercial unit gets a commercial package. if share holders are using the same line as a general user... it is the fault of the service provider.

Nope this is where I dis-agree with u. A shareholder may sit in his or her house and dabble in shares. So he is a home user. He would get the same connection as his neighbour ( me ) get who surfs and emails while the guy o the other floor may be d/l songs and the pervert on the floor below may be d/ling prOn. BSNL cant do much about it all. Cant blame them here.Abdul, Ill do it from Monday onwards as I took it lightly till now. I was being pateint and removing doubt at my end but they need some HELL from me.

if i trade shares from my home. i seriously doubt i would be consuming more bandwidth than a common user like you. share traders have multiple users conducting heavy business on possibly a single connection. there is a difference between the two parties.

Share traders online users are ussually single users. I know them closely. Check my website to get an idea.

than explain to me how would a single guy doing share trading online would use more bandwidth than a dude listening to online radio or surfing pr0n?i think share trading is just monitoring the markets on CNBC or NDTV Profit and order shares on the net... like any other e-commerce process.

Online share trader has his broswer or s/w which gives him online quotes which constatntly checks for new quotes and this uses the bandwidth all the time ( every second ). He clogs up the system this way. Similarly the guy who d/ls stuff all the time is doing the same but generally the d.lers do so at night ( dont they ) when traffic is lower.
