TRAI proposes compensation for dropped calls (lolz)

Lmao so rs 90 a month

Operators would not agree to the fact that a call has dropped due to their fault.

I will be surprised to see any body getting more than Rs2-Rs3 a month.

I just hope that call drops reduce drastically because after all that's the best thing for everyone.

I can see a price hike coming in tariffs that would pretty much negate the possible 90 rupee penalty per user.

In my area the situation is such that suddenly with construction of new house in the area totally the network has gone. Lol

This network is so wierd!!
I am living on 11 floor of a building and in front of my balcony there is no obstruction, yet I face voice breaking and call dropping in all GSM operators.
I had to convert my no. to CDMA to get rid of this problem.

I am wondering who will pay and to whom?

Fine is paid just to caller or both parties?

Lets say person A on Airtel calls person B on Vodafone and call drops.

So who will pay whom when a call drops?
  1. Airtel will pay 1Re to A?
  2. Vodafone will pay 1Re to B?
  3. Both 1 and 2 above will happen?
  4. Airtel agrees that its their fault and pays 1Re to A as well as B? (Vodafone does not pay anything)
  5. Vodafone agrees that its their fault and pays 1Re just to A (caller) but nothing to B (Airtel does not pay anything)
  6. Vodafone agrees that its their fault and pays 1Re to A as well as B? (Airtel does not pay anything)
  7. Airtel will blame Vodafone, Vodafone will blame Airtel and none-of-them will pay?
Any idea? I have a feeling that these things are not made clear by TRAI or DoT? So that telcos have excuses on WHY NOT TO PAY!

read yesterday that the policy is pretty broken up. it would be up to the consumer to prove that the call was dropped at his end or something. 😛

Exactly someone told me that this is just an eyewash. At the end only prices will go up.

Call drops: Experts find loopholes in Trai compensation norms - The Economic Times

However, the compensation will be given only if the call drop takes place due to the calling party's network and not because of the receiving operator's network.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has said that telecom operators from whose network call is originated will have to compensate customer if the call gets disconnected because of fault in its network.
He, however, added the compensation will be paid only when the call drop happened due to the calling party's network and not on the receiving operator's network.
The NGO Secretary Anil Kumar said that it will be very difficult to verify fault in the network and "practically consumers will not get any compensation. Over one year period, such compensation will not be more than Rs 10 crore across India for one operator".

This part is hilarious
Industry body Cellular Operators Association of India, however, estimates that even half of subscriber base in the country reports this problem then outflow for industry will be to the tune of Rs 150 crore per day.

"How can you expect to resolve the call drop problem with local authorities sealing mobile towers? Nearly 350 towers have been sealed in Delhi in the last three weeks and 100 in Mumbai in the last 4-5 months." he asked.
He also said licence conditions do not mandate operators to provide 100 per cent coverage and also inside buildings.
"Even the licence doesn't require me to provide 100 per cent coverage so if call drops happen on the uncovered areas. Why should I be penalised. Why should an operator compensate if call drop happens inside building?" he added.

Did anyone in this forum ever get 1Re compensation?
