Samsung Wallet Updates

I think that the USP of Samsung Pay is that it works with non-NFC machines.

I believe unless RBI relaxes the requirement for PIN on smaller transaction touch or non-touch really does not make a difference.

They already have for transactions under rs. 2000. No pin is required on nfc capable cards.

so samsung pay uses something called mst for regular pos machines which mimics the behavior of a swipe. which is a hardware component like nfc that's needed on the phone. i guess that's great for premium samsung device owners.

It is based on NFC too from what I remember, just like Android Pay.

It should simply be QR code based which is the most simplest and easiest to implement.

samsung's system would work on any machine. i am yet to find a retail store that has nfc capable machine even though i have visited the exact stores which are listed on icici bank website 😛

of course, Google Pay could be made compatible with bharatqr. but who here has seen bharatqr in action in the first place. samsung pay works because they are supporting the most basic technology for credit card transactions... mimicking the magnetic strip!

I still don't understand how Samsung Pay uses MST. The cards with MST needs to be swiped inside the slit provided on the machines. How will they swipe a mobile phone inside that slit? And if all the machines does support contactless MST why don't they use it for regular cards too? I have never seen a vendor just tapping the card on the machine for payment. I'm pretty sure it is compatible on NFC capable machines only.

Just saw a video on YouTube where a guy used Samsung Pay to pay at a shoe store. You just have to tap your phone on the POS machine (which looked like an ordinary POS machine, nothing special). Nice.
