20 years of internet in India

I see that no one has posted this. This day was the real freedom day for us.I cannot believe that 20 years have gone! I remember back in 1999 when i had my first experience of surfing the net. 33.6k on mantraonline. I miss web 1.0 days. Simple needs and simple net.

Today's net is pervasive, all encompassing information sucking rather than information giving. Internet of things is web 3.0 with sensors installed everywhere.

from 33 kbps to 2048kbps!

Just 100kbps per year increments!

I started with 32kbps too I think.

I remember one song download would take 10 mins or more!!

And each song was costing me 4 to 5Rs of telephone bill!!

Used bsnl dial up for first time internet access i can still recall the noise it used to make when connecting to internet.

I remember the days during 1998, when BSNL oops VSNL dialup is the way to connect internet @ 28.2 kbps.. My computer seller said buying 56k data voice fax modem is over-kill for the connections of those days.. Connections will be as bad as current Aircel / Airtel 2G in TN... That tondaing tondaing cry by modem will be spinning in my head even during sleep.. Too many junk calls, frequent disconnections is a casual thing.. Internet disconnects when someone takes the receiver for calls. Further we have to dial STD numbers to connect internet roughly @ Rs3/min or 3 pulses per min.. Forget downloading, you will be lucky to check e-mails in first attempt itself..

Now its better.. Now I am enjoying 3Mbps UL down + 1.5Mbps UL up for Rs2600 per month..
