In line with demand from telecom operators, the panel has recommended that OTT players should be brought under regulation to comply with national security norms like telecom operators in the country do.

"National security is paramount, regardless of treatment of Net neutrality. The measures to ensure compliance of security related requirements from OTT service providers need to be worked out through inter-ministerial consultations," the report added.

When nothing else works... Use national security as the excuse.

Apparently they've even given the go ahead for airtel zero, while going against internet.org.

Might as well have put airtel employees on the panel.

During the net neutrality debate the IT minister appeared on TV and suggested the govt fully supports net neutrality. Now that the noise has died down we can see their real intention.

this is similar to a lot of things. when out of power, we are for statehood for delhi. in power, oh no it's not a good idea. when out of power, we are against aadhaar. when in power, oh my god, aadhaar is so cool! and so on.
