I think what you got here is actually "ghosting". For the purpose of this discussion, let us call your friend Panduram. So, Panduram was leaning back in his chair slightly when you started taking the photo but was not leaning by the time the camera finished. All this time the camera's sensors were taking in the light from the scene; Panduram was leaning for a very short while as compared to the time he was not. That's why you have a faint image of position 1 (leaning) superimposed on the stronger position 2 (not leaning) image.Go Panduram!Perhaps you guys should try this again 🙂Brian.

superimposed... makes some sense. perhaps its due to the parameter called shutter speed?

That's right. Shutter speed is inversely proportional to the amount of time the CCDs (the actual sensors in digital cameras) are exposed to the scene.

If you need to take a non-blurry picture of a fast moving object, you need a high shutter speed which exposes the sensors for a very short time. This also means that the camera has less time to "take in" the scene and so it must be well lit - you must use a flash or external lighting. If you had used a really high speed with Panduram, you wouldn't notice any artifacts in the final image.

On the other hand, if you need to capture a dark scene with natural lighting (which I must say is much better than using the flash if you want to capture how it actually looks) then you can use a low shutter speed. My camera allows me to keep the sensors exposed for 15 seconds - the picture I finally get looks almost like what my eyes see, unfortunately now you can't have anything moving in the scene (and you can't shake the camera, use a tripod or keep it on some stable surface) or you'll get a blurry final image.

You can get some truly amazing photos with long exposure times in the night. Give it a shot if your camera allows it.

Brian.

Maybe your friend / colleague (panduram - lol!) has watched Hollow Man way too often. As for the "fcuk" thing - I hate censorship, because the crux of it is that it assumes that people are stupid, and consequently need to be protected. So when people self-censor and more so voluntarily, it's agreeing with that sentiment.

umm i like to say fcuk just coz it looks kinda hip... 😛

as for panduram...

Brian is no longer on google's top position for the keyword.

Sony dsc r-1 😀

Excellent choice for a camera... it has 21.5 x 14.4 mm CMOS sensor (as compared to cheaper 8.8 x 6.6 mm CCD )

Basically you can use a much higher shutter speed on this camera as compared to other cameras. That will eliminate need for Tripod in quite a few shots.

Other cameras will show a nearly black picture on higher shutter speeds.

yeah. i heard about the huge CMOS on this thingy... I have gone through the manual several times without gaining much information from it... though the photos captured by it are pretty awesome. if i know how to use it, they would become MORE awesome 😀

IMO, if you keep camera in "manual" mode then you learn with each shot whether good or bad. Took me a year to understand Shutter spped, Aperture and ISO. But once you learn to play with these three things then you can get max out of any Prosumer or SLR camera.

lol "panduram" :rofl:as for the fcuk thing, if you write fcuk everyone knows what you are talking about but no one can really complain about it because you can always say that it isnt f*** and you never meant it!😀

this thread has gone from 'ghost photo' to 'panduram' to 'fcuk' to 'elements of photography' and now back to 'panturam':hysterical:where to next???

on another note, why is it ok to say "fcuk" but not the original word?

that's because any spider/crawler/bot won't catch it and show it in their (like Google) search pages...like if u search for the actual word on google, it might show this page if the ranking is high, but if u use "fcuk" then it won't come at all in the search results...but if someone searches for "fcuk" then u might get it there 😛

one of the major reasons is that the original word might be considered abusive language by google and the site could get barred from their advertising system.

^ now that is actually the first decent explanation I have heard.@viralbug, try saying "fcuk you" to your boss / professor / parents. I don't think your argument of "no one can really complain about it because you can always say that it isnt f*** and you never meant it!" would go very far!!!!

that explaination is one of the few reasons i tend to be polite cursing companies and services on my personal blog.shameful admission considering google is manipulating my blogging!
