Feedback of Videocon d2h

Well,Just joined your forum guys.

After being fed up of local cablewalas' services,considering moving to some dth.My exploration in the web left me with some views of different players.I would like to have some honest reviews and feedback from users of different dths.Starting a thread here for feedback on videocon d2h from experienced users.I may start another for general feedback.

I saw some posts of users like armaan99 and balajik who shifted to d2h.I would like users like them (including others whom I have not mentioned) to give me some glimpse of d2h in these regards :

1. A. How are the quality of picture and sound of SD channels in HD DVR?
B. Where does d2h stand in comparison with others like Tata Sky or airtel in these respects?

2. A. How are the quality of picture and sound of HD channels in HD DVR?
B. Where does d2h stand in comparison with others like Tatasky or airtel in these respects?

3. Does the picture or sound lag? If yes then how does it compare to Tatasky and Airtel?

4.. Does the user interface and EPG lag and if yes how does it compare to Tatasky and Airetl?

5. What is the signal outage rate and how do you compare it to other players?

6. What are the cloudy and rainy day outage rate? Where it stands in comparison to other players?

7. And lastly the service and your take on it in comparison to others.


Please help probable new customers like me to have an impression of the real thing.Also,I am from Kolkata.So anybody can throw some light on their knowledge of d2h service,signal and quality here would be appreciable.

Basic pointers I believe are still accurate...

Quality is not the best in market. Tata does better there.
UI performance and usability is not the best in the market. Tata is again better there.
Probably the best VFM deal out there are packages are better priced than competition.
Customer support has been great for me. During the day time, if I file a complaint, I get a call back within 15-20 minutes and dude arrives within 1-2 hours to fix the issue.
 
Hello Sir. How do you rate the rain outage and otherwise blackouts in comparative ground?

Zee is the only other DTH service I have used and compared to that Videocon is much better.
 
I recently took Videocon D2H. Better than expectation actually. Chose pack online and made payment. Support person came next morning and installed it (neat job). From there on called customer support a couple of times and service has been good. Definitely value for money. Others are only more expensive. The STB is a bit sluggish, miss the Universal feature from Airtel remotes. You wont feel the difference in video quality unless you compare this next to another.
 
Yup. They are doing pretty good with quality of service delivery.
 

now Videocon has separate charges for "Delhi"!
does it consider "Noida" subscribers under "Delhi" ?
 
my inputs for people who want to join in VD2h.

ok so I am subscriber of Videocon d2h for last 4 years. I own the HD DVR box which they kept upgrading me free of cost and now its the latest 1000GB box. So over all technically the service is ok not great not bad at all. The picture quality if acceptable on a decently reproduced backlit panel of upto 42 inch HD or HD ready.

coming to sound, They are not great at all. Most of HD channels the audio pitch is low. On non HD channels, it is still better (comparatively).

One point to note here, I tune all my DTH and other dish antenna's of my own. I never allowed these DTH jokers to enter my house for installation, why...... to me basically they are just very low cost robotic type resources. They do what have been mugged up to them during the training after ITI. They have no idea about satellite signals all. They just know on the meter dial if signal is above ok mark....its good. Where as the bird-watching (satellite hunting) is a very indepth science of its own.

So yeah ... i think i cleared my point that the above mentioned facts are not bcoz of signal issue but .... it is what it is at its best.

In last 14 years of DTH journey i had Dish TV, Dish TV HD and Dish TV DVR, Airtel HD and Airtel DVR, Sun DVR, BigTV DVR and now have two Videocon DVR and 1 HD zapper.

Over all, i agree it is value of money. Also, i think, I dont need a better service provider as i get best packages.

Oh i forgot to mention, the Openstb software used by videocon and bigtv is shit..... so i have my own customised one running in my boxes. I ported this from scratch but cannot share as it is against the developer agreement. The point is, expect hardware glitches with these two providers.
