Cable internet is faster, stable and affordable than DSL in most developed countries. But in India its actually the opposite.

Fiber providers like Hathway, Den, Nextra etc does provide fast Internet plans. But they are highly unstable and technical support is nightmare.

I recently contacted my Local Cable provider who has now become a Local dealer of Nextra in my colony with plans upto 100 Mbps.

The basic working model is this - Nextra will give their network to Local Cable guy. Local Cable buy will attract customers through various promotions. New customers will be connected with internet via office of Local Cable guy and Nextra will activate the account from its server.

The problem - The local cable guys are unprofessional and lack technical knowledge. If you encounter any technical problem, it will be beyond understanding of local guys. You can only hope that problem is at Nextra end which Nextra technicians will hopefully fix quickly. If any problem arises via Local Cable office. it will never be fixed. They don't know what to do. Also the overhead cables are bound to get frequent problems. You have to keep calling Cable guy if your Cable snaps or any other issue.

In India the cable guys are bhai in their areas. They have a monopoly and restrict new entrants as a result customers don't get good services due to lack of competition. In my area recently they cut the cables of Hathway broadband and service remained down for few days.

Cable guys are Bhais. But bhaigiri is bigger problem in Mumbai. Delhi is much better compared to Mumbai.

Before DTH service came out. I could not change my cable provider. The rival cable provider in my area told me me that - "Naya connection nahin milega. Humne Apne apne custmer fix kar rakhe hain."

Then I installed DTH and got rid of Cable guys.

Not everywhere, here in Kolkata cable internet is a lot better than whatever BSNL/Airtel has, and if you have a good cablewala in your area, you will get great service. Honestly, after using Siti I could never go back to BSNL, mostly because how responsive and low latency my internet is and my cablewala maintains the lines regularly.

Here in thane too , the local cable is much better . It really depends on your cable operator if he is knowledgeable enough or not . Fortunately ours is 😀
